~ Disney Cars Glitter Lamp ~ During the run up to Christmas last year Amazon had their Lightening Deal offers which were deals that were offered on various items that lasted a short amount of time, during these deals a Toy Story 3 version of these Glitter Lamps was offered which I bought but I then went browsing to see what other ones they offered and that is where I found the Disney Cars Glitter Lamp which I also ended up buying too. My son wanted a full size lava lamp but as he was only four years old at the time I didn't think it a wise idea so I opted for these two instead and hoped that these would do him until he was a little older. I paid around £2 for the Toy Story one and around £4 for the Cars one, I didn't mind the slight price difference as I thought they both looked really cute. Currently you can buy the Disney Cars Glitter Lamp on Amazon for £4.59 (price correct October 2012). When they were delivered I was surprised at just how small they were, I hadn't read up on the sizes but I expected them to be a little bigger than they actually are, infact it made me glad that I did buy the two lamps! The size of the lamp is a small 15cm high (6in) X 4.5cm diameter (1.8in). They are quite cute though. The lamps come in a little cardboard package, with an open front. Taking it out you will see that a small white tab needs to be removed from the battery compartment in order for the lamp to work, once removed the lamp with a quick shake will spring into an array of changing colours, the colours change between red, green and blue. The lamp holds a plastic sheet in the middle that had the cartoon picture on it, this is stable and does not move when shaken but there is an added sprinkle of glitter in the water, these sparkle and catch the light and look rather pretty and funky. The lamps look like your typical bullet shaped lava lamps but in miniture version. The Cars one is has a red base and a red pointed top the middle section is clear through which you can see Lightening Mcqueen. The lamps don't get hot so they are safe to handle even when flashing. The lamp will turn off automatically after around 30 seconds of flashing. My son really loved these and has them placed on his windowsill now and each night he gives them a little shake before getting into bed. They have lasted well and I have never had to change the batteries, I am not sure of the size but they are the flat silver style (watch) batteries and are located on the underside of the lamp. Thanks for reading :o) x
When we decorated the children's rooms we decided to get them lamps to put in there and searching Amazon we came across these glitter lamps in Peppa pig and Disney cars and knew they would be perfect and they are 2 of our children's favourite characters. You can buy the cars or cars 2 version of this lamp but we went for the cars version as 1 it was 31 cheaper and 2 my son is not very keen on cars 2 film yet would sit and watch the first movie over and over. The glitter lamps are made out of transparent plastic but the casing is rather thick as it is aimed at children the likeliness of it being dropped at some point is very high and as it has glitter inside and a picture my children even wanted to break it just to get them out. It is red in colour nd very bright and attractive to hold little ones attention. Inside the lamp is an oval shape piece of material with a picture on both side of it with the famous race car lightening McQueen on it. The picture either side is identical so no matter which side little one looks they see the same thing. Also at the bottom of the base it has the lightening McQueen's stamp so little one instantly recognises it as their favourite character. Around this is the glitter liquid which when you shake the lamp all flows up and around the transparent case of the lamp making it look really pretty and my children love to watch this. This circulates the whole of the transparent case but as the lights are so bright sometimes that can over take the glitter. The base of the lamp is large and round and easy for little one to get a good hold off without covering any of the transparent case so they can appreciate the full picture glitter and lights that this provides. As it is so small it is really light weight also so easy for little one to carry around which my daughter does constantly. When you first receive the light you have to pull a small plastic tab from the bottom of it to make it begin to work. Once you have done this as soon as you move the lamp even the smallest amount it begins to start flashing. This is great as it means little one can make it work independently as the lightest touch sets it off s no need for mummy or daddy to help. There are 3 different colours red green and blue from reading the description on Amazon I thought it would be one steady colour at a time but actually it is more like disco lights and all 3 colours flash at the same time rather fast too so I was a little worried about the flashing lights and the children's eyes but they love it and do not seem to mind. Once lit up the light stays illuminated for around 60 second before it needs to be shaken again. It is bright but not bright enough to light up a room. The main let down with this toy is the size of it. I was not expecting anything massive as after all it only cost £6 but as retail price is supposed to be around £12 I certainly was not expecting what we received and that was a tiny lamp not even 10cm tall it is the same size as my sons hand nearly which shows you how small it actually is as he is 4 years old. Another small problem is at the top of the lamp is a plastic cap and this had fallen off after a few days use to show the bung that holds the liquid in. This was easily fixed by gluing it back on and has not affected the way the lamp looks but this should have been glues better by the manufacturers so there was no need for us to do it. On the upside it taught my children how the liquid was put inside and what was holding it in which resulted in an interesting conversation. My children love this lamp they keep it at the sides of the bed and often use it in the night to search for monsters under the bed or guide themselves to the bathroom. It has been used a lot by both of them and they love that it is so small they can carry it around with them so really the size does not matter to them. From my point of view I am still a little worried about letting them have something that flashes so much an I would not have purchased them if it was explained clearer that it is not a steady light of red blue and green and rather a disco light. It is recommended from 3 years plus and has batteries provided with it which after 15 months we have not had to replace as yet. They retail apparently at £12 but there is no way I would pay this I am a little annoyed we even paid £6 for it because of the size of it. Great if you can get it at a cheap price but not overly exciting although my children do seem to enjoy it.
When i cashed in my dooyoo miles for my first amazon voucher i choose my amazon wish list with care packed full of christmas gifts for my girls, i choose the disney cars glitter lamp from my wish list and paid. I was really excited about the disney car lamp i knew Jess would love it as its cars she is a tom boy and loves disney cars. It looked fantastic in the pictures and i got it at a bargain price of £4.99 free postage. When the lamp arrived i was sorely disappointed it was so tiny not quite what i was expecting i was silly to think i was buying an actual glitter lamp. The lamp is mainly plastic in red with disney cars logos on it, has a nice lightening mcqueen car picture in the background and when shacking the gold glitter floats around like a snow globe, it takes a while to settle down again. The disney glitter lamp is only 6 inches tall and fits in the palm of my hand, looks so much bigger in the pictures on amazon. Its not a total disappointment i know Jess will love it and it light up in colours a simple shake will set of the lights and colours will change as the glitter is falling. It lights up red, blue and back to yellow again then switches off until activated again. It is very bright when it lights up and will make a nice little decoration to the bedroom. The batteries are included with the lamp. I have put this away for Jess for her christmas stocking and have now learned to read things before i buy them. I still recommend the disney cars glitter lamp but as a novelty torch for kids, i will give it 3 dooyoo stars as it is pretty when glowing.
My daughter and I were out shopping last week and we saw this little Disney Cars glitter lamp reduced from £3.99 to £1.00 in ASDA. They also had a Toy Story one so I got her that too as she is Toy Story crazy! We have been trying recently to get as many smallish lights for my daughter's bedroom as she is a little bit scared of the dark. I cannot think why because she wasn't but as she is now, she likes to have light which means her having her little night light on and us leaving the landing light on which isn't great for our electricity as it comes off of our prepayment meter. The Cars one is really nice but I should say that if you are going to order it online do not think you will be getting a full sized glitter lamp as this is only a mere 15cm high. It is really tiny. It is bright red, like Lightening McQueen with the Cars logo on the base. Lightening McQueen is in the centre of the lamp. When you want to turn the lamp on you just shake the lamp upside down and it will come on and glitter will swirl all around inside it. When the lamp is glowing, it turns three different colours: red, green and blue. The lamps lasts for about half a minute before it shuts itself down so if you are looking for a further nightlight this is not it. Really it is just good for decoration or as a little torch. The lamp is made of really hard plastic so it is really sturdy and it stands well on a flat surface. The light is fairly bright when it is on and you can see in the dark with it when you make it come on. It doesn't light up the whole room but it lights up the area it is in. My daughter does use it a fair bit in the night if she loses her soft toys or when she is on her way to our bedroom or the toilet. I have seen this lamp on Amazon for nearly £7.00 which is just a complete rip off as it is not worth that much money in the slightest but it has been reduced now to £2.95 which is more suitable but I still think the pictures of them are a little deceiving. I do recommend them as a little torch or as a little addition to a bedroom for decoration but only if you can pick them up cheap. Needless to say, my daughter really likes both of hers.
My daughter is scared of the dark - so much so that until recently she slept with the bedroom light on all night . As I pay for my electricity by prepayment meter, I really wanted to break her of the habit as it was costing me money each week, so I looked around for something to reassure her, and came across this small glitter lamp on amazon . When I say small, I mean small . This little lamp is only 15 cm high . The benefit of this for me is that it doesn't take up much room on my daughters bedside table . Its an attractive red colour, with a picture of Mcqueen in the middle. It's simple to use - simply tip it upside down to activate, which shakes the glitter around and makes the lamp cycle through red, green, and blue . It will carry on doing this for 30 seconds or so, before turning itself off . My daughter really likes this - it gives her a little reassurance knowing there is a light right next to her bad when she wakes up . Admittedly, not a particularly strong one, certainly not strong enough to read by , by any means, but perfectly adequate for checking behind the curtains for monsters or , when carried in her hand, for lighting her way to the bathroom at night . At £6.47 on Amazon, I do feel it's a little pricey for what it is , and plan to upgrade this to a bedside lamp later in the year. But even then, this will make an attractive piece of bedroom decor, and I imagine my daughter will enjoy it for some time to come . 4 stars .
The Disney Cars Glitter Lamp is another new feature in the grandson's newly decorate Cars themed bedroom. It first came to my attention when I spotted it online, but I didn't buy it because it had some very poor reviews. Apparently it was 'tiny' and a waste of money. However, I then spotted it in Homebase, and took an instant shine to it. It is small yes, in fact it's so small it'll fit easily into a young child's hand. But isn't that point of this novelty light?! To be held easily by the small child for which it is intended? Yes it looks tiny to me, but if I was only a few feet tall, I'd be perfectly content with the size of it - as the grandson was the minute he first saw it. When you shake this lamp up, glitter falls inside it in the same fashion as it would do in a snow globe. A few coloured lights flash at the same time as well, which illuminate the whole of the lamp area. I was actually really pleased with the multi-coloured lights, as it gives the product that tiny bit of additional depth that it needs. The lights are all very bright as far as watching a light show goes, though this isn't strong enough or long-lasting enough to use an actual lamp. Each time you shake up this lamp, the lights dance around for a couple of minutes. Then as the glitter settles, the lights automatically stop. I think this is a bonus as it's obviously been aimed at very young children, and you wouldn't want them leaving it on and then touching a hot outer casing. Perhaps they could have built a torch into the base though and upped the price slightly in line with that? This isn't designed to be a lamp, though perhaps the name it's been given is a little misleading over that! It's designed to be a toy for fun in the dark, and it's brilliant for that purpose. It's a little pricy at £5.99, but I don't feel cheated having paid that at all. Especially since it gives the grandson so much pleasure. It's easy to use, fun to watch, a convenient size for little hands and it features bright lights in different colours too. Worth buying for children who like to watch light shows above anyone else.
