Advantages: Looks very nice when finished

Disadvantages: Time

I picked up a brochure from our local Focus Do It All store, but I noticed that B & Q stock parts as well.

I found the brochure very informative and it enabled me to cost out the project, and decide on the wood and style.

Still they assume you have a lower newel base, so I was still stuck. On the brochure there was a website address, I wrote an email to them and very quickly I received a big A4 sized Brochure, with the brochure was a very nice letter.

The new brochure described what to do to install (in great detail) a replacement/ a new newel base.

Another problem was solved by this brochure too, our banister would have to disappear into the ceiling of the landing, diagrams showed how to over come this, and I must say that I am really impressed with the outcome, in fact I can’t stop looking at it and smiling.

It is an improvement and it goes well with its surroundings.

It took my dad and me a weekend, the first day involved making the frame, once cut to size you needed to glue in place and leave to set over night, the second day you need to insert the spindles and spacers.

The project didn’t cost much over a hundred pounds, it is worth it, safety wise and in looks.
