Domestos has been around since 1929 when it was sold by door to door salesmen,who would dispense the bleach into stone jars. Today the product is made by the giant unilver and widely available from all supermarkets. Domestos now comes in several variants including original in a blue bottle,pink power and sun fresh. I like to buy the original. There are of course several cheaper brands of bleach on the market;all claiming to do the same job as Domestos. So is it worth paying extra for this branded make?

I would say most definitely yes! I mainly use Domestos for cleaning and disinfecting my toilets. I am not keen on the powerful smell of bleach ,but find that bleach is the only product that removes stains in the toilet. I pour a little Domestos down my loo and then leave for as long as possible before flushing. If possible it is best to leave Domestos to do its work overnight. The result is a spotlessly clean looking and smelling loo!


Domestos can be used for a whole range of cleaning jobs .When diluted it can be used to wash floors,clean the kitchen,wash outside paths and dustbins. I have used a little diluted in an empty spray bottle when I run out of my favourite flash with bleach spray. I have also used neat Domestos to pour down drains. A little neat Domestos is also a great way to get my white porcelain sink stain free. You do of course,need to be careful when using bleach as it will remove colour from clothing . I also waer rubber gloves when using Domestos.

Unlike other cheaper brands I have tried,Domestos is much thicker and therefore I find I need less to achieve good results. I use Domestos to clean my toilets on daily basis and it really does leave them looking spotless! Domestos contains sodium hypochlorite; a chemical used to clean and disinfect swimming pools. It is a well known chemical that kills germs and leaves a clean * bleached* finish. Bleach can be dangerous in the wrong hands and Domestos has a child proof safety cap that can be a bit tricky to open!
