Advantages: A good quality bleach
Disadvantages: none
Different strokes for different folks. To this day my Mother doesn't like bleach in the house and only ever buys it in desperation. My Father loved Jeyes Fluid and he regularly tackled the dustbin with gusto nearly knocking us all unconscious with the Jeyes fluid fumes.
I must have my Grandmother genes as she used bleach for practically every household task that had to be done.
We all have our own chosen ways of sanitising. Now I am by no means houseproud and would die on the spot if Aggie and Kim called unexpectedly, but over the years I have developed peculiar little habits. When I have washed up the breakfast dishes I fill my sink with warm water and add a tiny spot of bleach then I wipe my work surfaces over, now if I miss out on this daily chore I feel incomplete!
That sounds so sad!
My toilet pan is treated to a nightly squirt of thick lemon bleach and as the bleach soaks into the pan overnight the china stays stain-free.
I have long since established that there is `bleach` and `bleach`, the so- called bargain bleach that comes at under 50p a bottle is neither use to man nor beast. I need power, if that is going to cost me a few extra pence then its well worth it.
Tesco have their own brand out now, I don't know whether you have seen it? it is called `Daisy`, I tried the bleach but it didn't pass muster im afraid, too weak and watery.
Domestos Sunfresh bleach has been on offer in our local Sainsbury`s, a 750ml bottle for 63p, a massive 33% off.
Domestos is one of my favourites, a well known brand name bleach manufactured by Unilever.
Bleach will never be beautiful or glamourous, it is functional and in my book essential and you buy it with with hygiene uppermost in your mind.
Domestos Sunfresh bleach is bottled very appropriately in a sunshine yellow plastic bottle with a child resistant cap.
We always put the empty bottle out for the recycling collection, they have never thrown it back at us yet.
The bottle label confidently states that it carries Domestos bleach.
The bottle is well designed, the bleach pours easily without spilling and the pouring nozzle is just about the right size.
There are a million and one toilet cleaners on the market, Harpic and Toilet Duck are big names in pan cleaning and although I often slip a bottle into my basket I know that Domestos will do the job equally as well. A good squirt under the rim works wonders for limescale, Kitchen and bathroom drains are another area where Domestos can come to the fore, give them a healthy squirt of neat Domestos, it keeps them disinfected and smelling fresh.
If you squirt some bleach into your plugholes and overflows, leave it for a couple of minutes and then rinse off thoroughly it helps keep them clean and fresh too.
For floor cleaning and work surfaces it can be used but it must be very well diluted and of course it`s excellent for giving the dishcloths and sponges a good soak (well diluted again though)
If you have sheets or towels that need soaking overnight then you can use a solution of diluted bleach too.
Domestos Sun Fresh is a good quality thick bleach, it kills listeria, salmonella and germs in general.
It is an effective way of tackling limescale and gives 100% to the job in hand.
Summary: A good quality household bleach with power behind it.

- 05/01/09 I've bought the daisy dishwasher tablets to try. Your mention of their bleach makes me not hold out much hope for them. When it comes to bleach Domestos wins for me too. |

- 05/01/09 I found your review really interesting and engaging, which surprised me a little as I've never found bleach that riveting, to be honest! Great review. |
