      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Worth it when on special offer

I have just bought Double Velvet Toilet Tissue for the first time, mainly because it has been on offer in my local Savers at £1.87 for four rolls, plus 2 free. Until now I have always used Andrex. I'm reasonably pleased with the Double Velvet but find the start of each roll is a real pain, resulting in wasting the first few sheets and finding bits of tissue all over the floor. Andrex rolls are so much easier to start off! I had the same problem with Charmin rolls and it stopped me buying them again.

The Double Velvet is a little harder than Andrex but this doesn't seem to be a problem.

The product is made in the EU which means anywhere in Europe so hopefully, it's made in the UK. Seems ludicrous to have to import toilet rolls!

Each roll has an average of 200 sheets of 3-ply tissue, according to the blurb on the wrapper; each sheet is 120mm x 109mm, giving a total area of 15.70sqm and a minimum length per roll of 24.0m, not that I am about to test the specifications!

The perforations always work, unlike Andrex, so it's easy to tear the roll without tearing the sheets themselves. The sheets are well-constructed and seem to be tougher than Andrex but not uncomfortable to use; they are thicker, too, so less needs to be used. (What a delicate subject this is!).

I buy the Pure White toilet rolls. For some reason, I don't like coloured toilet tissue and white goes well with any colour scheme. The wrapper is in shades of blue with the current offer shown in orange and white. In the small print on the back of the wrapper, it says 'This polythene wrap is recyclable where facilities exist'.

I shall probably continue to buy Double Velvet while it is on special offer but, if the usual price is similar to Andrex, the fact that the rolls are hard to start off will not induce me to keep buying it.

A great toilet roll which lasts ages

Great toilet roll that lasts for ages!!

I first purchased this when it was on offer in morrisons, 6 rolls for around 1.79pounds!! Bargain!! It is quite a bit more expensive to the betterbuy toilet rolls and things alike as they tend to cost around 60p for 4. I must admit you do get what you pay for with this toilet roll.

The roll is tightly packed with toilet roll and seems to last forever on your toilet roll holder.

The toilet rolls come in plastic packaging which is see through allowing you to see what you are buying. The makers of this product claim that you will get 200 sheets per roll, and although I havent counted, I am pretty sure they won't be lying lol. The toilet sheet size is 120mm by 109mm, average size and has a total area of15.70 square metres!! The packaging states that there is a minimum of 24 metres of toilet roll on each roll!!

There is no specific odour to this toilet roll as some brands have a scented roll, this one is pretty plain, but who needs fragerenced toilet roll???

If I was you I would stock up on this item when its on stock its definatley a great product to have!!!

Sorry i meant to say scented loo roll!

Having gone through almost every colour you could want for you loo roll and adding aloe vera and moisturisers to keep your delicate bum happy now Velvet loo roll is available in a scented version!

I threw a pack of 4 white loo rolls into the trolley at Morrisons and it was only when I opened them I realised they were scented. The scent is "white flowers" and isn't actually on the loo paper but in the core (I assume they mean the tube!)

When I opened the plastic wrapper from around them the smell hit me straight away, I would like to say it was a nice surprise but I can't really. The smell is too overpowering and smells more like something I would clean the loo with rather than wipe my nether regions with! It does smell flowery and the scent does last (unfortunatly) right to the end of the roll. Supposedly to keep the bathroom smelling fresh. Yes I suppose it does keep it smelling but again I'm not sure I want to wipe my bum with it, because although the scent is in the core the whole loo roll does smell. I tore off a few sheets and took them away from the scented core and they still smelt after a good 30 mins so the scent has transferred to the paper somehow, and this is only halfway through the roll.

The paper is still nice and soft as you would expect from Velvet and the rolls last just as long.

If you want to try these then go looking for a green wrapper around the white rolls, there is a yellow panel in the top corner that says White flowers scent and in the bottom corner it says Aroma, with a scented core. Other than that there is no difference to the regular packs, I never notice what colour the normal white paper pack is I just look for the paper itself, something I will check on from now on!

        I paid £1.78 for a pack of 4 rolls.

There is a note on the back of the pack which says if you are allergic to any perfumed products then choose a different product from the velvet range. I would recommend you choose a different product even if you aren't allergic to perfumed products!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

There's not too many things you can say about bog roll, after all you'd think its all about the same. Well, I'm here to tell you different, as you know my little girls room is very important to me and I like to have it looking and smelling nice. Double Velvet toilet tissue is my all time favorite. I have tried the quilted versions and think that these are not as good. If you look at the roll itself you can see that on a double velvet roll the tissue is wound on tighter and that the roll is more compact, I think this gives you more tissue per roll and therefore is more economical. The quilted tissue types look thicker but are more bulkier and run out quicker. Double velvet is 1.85 in Safeways the packaging is dark blue plastic and the word Velvet is written across the front, there's a circle surrounding the name in whatever colour you buy and it comes in white, yellow, peach, green, blue and purple. My bathroom is peach and so you can colour co-ordinate your little girls room if your like me and have style....lol. The tissue is 2 ply which gives it extra strength and is very soft, you get 4 rolls in each pack and every now and again they are on offer at Safeways for 99p. You are limited to 3 packs per purchase, so it pays to stock up. I always buy three at a time as I like to save money whenever I can. Double Velvet is made by SCA Hygiene Products UK Ltd and there is a www.sca-hygiene.co.uk address if you want to know more about them. The average roll contains 240 sheets. The reason I buy this is because I think its good value for money and I love the various colours available. They are also good for removing make-up or with nail varnish remover as the tissue is soft but strong. Well I think that about covers eveything.

Double Velvet toilet tissue used to have the name "Kleenex" on the packs. Then it was all that the makers claimed, being strong, smooth and comfortable to use. Now the name "Kleenex" has disappeared from the pack, and the quality is inferior to the average supermarket "own brand" toilet tissue. Also the quality varies from one roll to another, as if they were being made in different factories. Not to put too fine a point on it, it is so weak that your finger goes straight through it!! It is still, of course as expensive as ever.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Double velvet toilet tissue is a special kind of paper which you use for wiping your bum when you've had a poo. Or in case you drip from the other end, or your nose. As opposed to Quilted velvet, made by the same people, which is "deeply quilted and sumptuously soft", Double velvet is only "luxuriously soft", and happily, "affordable", the latter adjective being withheld from the description of Quilted Velvet. In my experience they are both much softer than your average bog roll. If your buttocks are spotty or sensitive, I imagine this would make quite a difference. My buttocks are neither spotty nor sensitive, but I can tell the difference anyway. If you go to the website you can read about how they use a hairdryer-type device to make it extra absorbent and strong. Why is this paper different to normal paper? Well, it is difficult to draw on, as most paper isn't. It's not recyled, as some paper is (tut tut). In a desperate bid to make this review *even* more useful I shall now tell you that in Indonesia mummies don't use tissues to clean their kids noses. They just hold out their hands, say "blow!" and then shake it off. A much more environmentally friendly option, non? See you at Speakers Corner to discuss further? (Go to "paperless snot removal" category). You want more? Em...okay. It comes in a roll, wrapped round a little cardboard tube, exceptionally useful for making Blue Peter-style pencil holders once the family has, ahem, "wiped out" the paper around it. I'm really trying here people. What else can I tell you? Oh I know. If you are used to using cheapie orange 99p Safeways own toilet roll, the kind where you usually double up for a number two, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that a single unfolded piece of this stuff does the same job with no nasty surprises breaking through. So although it is more expensive, it's kind o
f worth it, if you can bring yourself to trust it. I can't. I have to double up - there's been to damn many nasty surprises in my poop-life to risk it. So I stick to cheapie orange stuff. It does look nice and posh on the toilet roll holder though, if you've got one, and if you find yourself sitting on the bog for a longer while than you reckoned on, with no book within reach (it's happened to us all) you can blur your eyes and try and find shaped in the pretty textured patterns, a bit like cloud watching, except the air isn't as fresh. Following useful bit squeezed directly from the website: Double Velvet is available in white, champagne, pink, peach, green and, unique to Velvet, (woohoo! - oops, this is my bit - back to the plagiarised bit-) violet - in 2-roll, 4-roll and some 9-roll packs. And according to Dooyoo, if it's out of your price range to buy a new roll, you can click a link and look for used Double Velvet Toilet Tissue on Ebay.

Double Velvet is a luxuriously soft and strong toilet tissue, made with a state-of-the-art TAD (Through Air Dried) process - a warm air stream blown through the tissue produces an extremely absorbent and especially strong structure. Double Velvet is available in white, champagne, pink, peach, green and violet - in 2-roll, 4-roll and some 9-roll packs.
