Advantages: Freshens and cleans loo, Helps remove limescale build-up, Inexpensive
Disadvantages: Could be a little thicker in consistency
This opinion is written as part of a challenge between myself and fellow DooYoo writer, Judith (judithritchie). We were stuck for ideas on what to write about next, so decided we’d write about the same subject in the hope we might spur each other on. We finally came up with Toilet Duck, no idea where the inspiration for this particular subject came from but looks like we’re stuck with it! :O) Toilet Duck is a toilet cleaner, plain and simple. It’s intended to ‘provide complete hygiene for your toilet, leaving it fresh and clean’, well, that’s what it says on the pack at least! But one of the best things about this particular toilet cleaner is the twisted nozzle, which means you no longer have to be double-jointed or hang upside down like a bat when using it, because the unique angled neck makes squirting the product under your loo rim that much easier! Stand the pack on its side, and sure enough, there is some resemblance to a duck, complete with red beak, hence the name. Sad but true! As a cleaner, the product works very well, the liquid is thick enough to coat the inside of the toilet bowl without being so runny that it disappears into the depths below before having any chance at zapping those unpleasant germs. Plus, in addition to zapping germs on contact, it also continues to work under the waterline for additional cleaning and disinfecting. It works well against a moderate amount of limescale build-up too, providing you let the product ‘cling’ to the offending areas long enough for it to be able to dissolve it away. It is also available in a choice of fragrances, including Citrus, Spring Fresh and Ocean Force but I much prefer the original Spring Fresh. None, however, reek too much of very strong bleach, like other brands I can think of, so shouldn’t irritate delicate nostrils and eyes. It’s fairly reasonably priced, especially if you buy the larger 750ml size, costing arou
nd £1.40 or so depending on where you buy it. Asda are currently offering the best price of my local supermarkets. For best results, the manufacturers (SC Johnson Wax) recommend that you leave the product to act for at least twenty minutes before flushing, especially if you do have a build-up of limescale. Then it’s just a matter of a quick sweep around with your toilet brush, flush, and your loo should be gleaming and fresh smelling and hopefully restored to its original enamel or ceramic beauty! Like any other toilet cleaner, this product contains bleach so the usual precautions should be taken, Keep well out of the reach of children, and try to avoid contact with your eyes or skin (if any of this product does manage to get into your eye, rinse thoroughly with clean cold water to wash it away before it causes any serious damage). Finally, always wash your hands well after use.
