When we had our house decorated a few years back the builders doing the work suggested that we use Satinwood rather than gloss on our newly fitted doors. They said that it gave a more modern look and was more forgiving (in terms of wear, bumps and scrapes) than the traditional gloss paint that's used on woodwork and radiators. We agreed. I must confess I do like the look of satinwood. I swear by premium paints, although they are a lot more expensive, it turns out more cost effective in the long run as you get the job done quicker as you don't have to do as many coats, and a tin of paint goes a lot further because it gives more coverage.
