When it comes to decorating, this is one area that I don't think you can try and scrimp on. There are many cheap paints out there that can be bought and you think you have got a bargain, however when using these kinds of paint, more often than not, you have got to apply more than two coats to even get a half decent result and ends up costing you more in the long run to do a decent job.

I swear by premium paints, although they are a lot more expensive, it turns out more cost effective in the long run as you get the job done quicker as you don't have to do as many coats, and a tin of paint goes a lot further because it gives more coverage.

Dulux Satinwood is a product that I have used before and used at the weekend. I like to keep my house looking fresh and always give it a lick of paint from time to time to avoid any discolourations.

Satinwood is an alternative to gloss and is available in many different colours, the colour I used at the weekend was Coffee Liqueur which is probably one of the darker colours within the range, however I have developed an obsession with brown and my whole house weems to be that colour now. Using this paint, as opposed to gloss, it gives you more of a matt finish rather than a gloss and I find it looks a lot more attractive as gloss sometimes I think looks a bit cheap.

Satinwood can be applied to wood, metal and radiators, and the good thing is you can apply it over old paint or gloss, without having to put an undercoat on and still get good results. With the particular colour that I purchased I also found that I only had to do one coat and it wasn't patchy at all and did not require a second coat like a lot of paints do.

This product also does not smell as bad as gloss. I find that gloss lingers for days and days and sometimes gives me a headache if I have used it, however Satinwood is by far not as strong in odour and disappears completely after a couple of days.

This does take a while to dry though, thats one similarity between that and gloss and with having a pet, I have to keep an eye on him to make sure that he doesn't rub up against the skirting boards and ends up with paint all over himself and smudging what I have carefully been doing for a couple of hours.

The tub I bought was a standard size and costed £9.49 from Focus. Althought it was a small tub, it went a long way and I am sure I have got enough left to redo it once or twice more as the paint seems to keep for a good while. Would definitely recommend this.
