Advantages: Great Quality Finish, Widely available, Can be Mixed

Disadvantages: More Expensive than other brands.

This is the best quality paint out there and whilst my parents argue that it's a waste of money, it's of such a superior quality to many other value paints that it's worth the extra money. Dulux is an internationally available brand of paint and is symbolised by the widely recognised Dulux dog - an old english sheepdog who is the brand's mascot.

One of the great things about Dulux is that you can readily find "Mixing Stations" available at builder's merchants and B&Q stores. There is a huge range of different shades/colours that can be specially mixed in a process known as "tinting". The paint can be mixed in either matt or silk varieties and involves a can of white paint being placed under a computer, which squirts colour onto the top. The paint is then placed in a kind of motorised mixer and the final result is a beautifully tinted paint. The cost is £17ish for 2.5 litres.

Anyway - why do I think it's justified to spend the extra money for Dulux? Well I find the chepaer the paint, the more watered down it is in general. Dulux has always seemed thick, less watered down than other paints and so you get a much easier and better looking finish, with less coats. I like the fact that Dulux comes in a metal tin, it's so much more secure and better for future storage. Apparently Dulux are currently experimenting with paints that have teflon mixed in, and this means that if you happen to spill coffee or another paint onto your freshly painted coat, you can wipe it off without leaving any difference to the surface of the paint, meaning you don't have to "touch up" later.

My opinion seems to be agreed by several DIY forums in general online - Dlux is one of the best quality paints out there - and it isn't even ridiculously expensive. Paint is an investment in a room which may be responsible for the room's appearance for years to come - so it's worth investing in a good quality paint as far as I'm concerned.

Summary: My personal preferance.
