Advantages: Smooth to paint and many colours to pick

Disadvantages: It can be slightly thick

I have been decorating my home for around 2 years now with various pieces getting done bit by bit. Painting is the biggest problem I never find the right combination or a paint colour which suits the room style I have created.

I wanted a vibrant red for a bedroom I had and it was meant to create a warm feeling when you entered and I was searching forever until I was told about the Dulux book. This book had many colours to choose from and it was done in a chart format.

You had all the blues and greens together with little squares which are coloured and with a name underneath of the paint used to paint that square. I found one instantly I wanted and it was called Roasted Red.

The paint sample I got to test was sadly on in Matt which left me angry so I had to take a risk and purchase the bigger 2.5 litre Silk coat for £16.

At first it felt a lot of money because paint can go either way. You either have to much or you have to little. Dulux is a big brand in the paint world and most people know who they are and they always seem to get great praise.

This red I had chosen in the book and the paint tin it came in was a red but the sort of red you see on peanuts sometimes. I decided to put a small amount onto a white wall which was plaster board.

After about 10 minutes of painting this huge square I found the first coat very dark and it looked to be the complete opposite of the paint colour on the tin but after an hour of drying it turned into a lighter shade and it was almost a replica to the colour in the book.

I decided to paint the entire wall and it was the size of a mattress standing up this wall. I found that around three quarters of the paint needed to be used in order to finish the wall. I had to put many coats of paint on top of the white plaster board and it was annoying.

I found with each coat that the colour remained the same but it was always very thick the paint so I was using far to much when applying and this was the same even after stirring the paint inside. I think the price I paid I would have hoped for much better results when it came to applying this to the wall.

When I found a wall in another room which had blue wallpaper there I decided to use the rest of the paint on this just to see how it faired and I found it took very little to coat over the blue paint and the wallpaper. I think if you want to paint wallpaper on a wall then it works great but a bare wall it can take forever to complete.

I love the fact there was such a range of colours to choose from and it was a replica to the colour in the book and it was a shame they had no samples of the bright silk effect but only matt.

This paint I had was only available in the 2.5l container and yet some of the other paints can be brought in bigger sizes and prices can vary as well. I would also point out that compared to the B and Q own paint there was no bubbles left behind or blotches and by this I do mean the paint.

When I have used paint in the past there has been areas where some paint has formed solid lumps but with the dulux paint it was a smooth paint which was applied really easily.

Summary: A great paint
