Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Doesn't do exactly what it says on the tin

We moved house last year, so have started a new round of decorating. The previous owners had converted the garage into a room, so we decided to use it as a playroom for our two year old daughter. To make it more interesting, and because of the smooth newly plastered walls, I decided to paint pictures on the walls, rather than wallpapering them. I was, therefore very interested in the Dulux KidZone paints. This range has lots of bright exciting colours and also special effect paints; just right for the kind of painting I wanted to do. I decided to use the glitter paint. It wasn't cheap at £10.99 for a small tin, but I thought it would be worth it, as I wouldn't use a lot and the effect would be good. However once I had completed the decorating I was really disappointed with the paint, and the walls where I had used it do not look as good as I had hoped.

The paint is designed to be a topcoat, you put it over other paint colours. Now on the paint chart it shows the glitter quite clearly and promises that "In your room your walls will sparkle with bigger particles of glitter". I painted some shapes on the wall in a variety of colours, and put the glitter paint over the top. However in the places I have used it you can hardly see the glitter. Instead of bigger particles of glitter there is a slight shiny effect, and you have to be really up close to see it. There is certainly no sparkle. Comparing the effect to the paint chart, I'm not sure you could say the glitter particles are bigger. It really isn't what I was expecting.

The worse thing about this is that the KidZone paint chart is written especially to appeal to children, rather than parents. I could see that an older child who had really set their heart on a glittery room would be disappointed when they saw the finished effect, and that is a shame. Luckily my daughter at two is too small to be worried about things like this, she
is just please with her playroom.

Dulux KidZone paints are a nice idea. It's great to be able to buy special effect paints and slightly wacky colours to use to decorate children's rooms. It's just a shame that the glitter paint does not live up to its promises (and price), and from a company as big as Dulux I would have expected more.
