Advantages: Makes white underwear look new again, can use on silk

Disadvantages: None for me

Every now and then I notice that my whitest whites have turned a shade of grey (not 50), and rather than chucking them all away, I use the Dylon Lingerie Whitener to get them looking new again. I don't spend a fortune on underwear but have a few favourites from La Senza and don't like to throw them away, especially when there is a product on the market that works.

The gentle formula was what made me a little dubious at first, as I wondered how something so delicate could strip the pale grey tinge from my delicates and turn them white again, but it actually works! I sometimes even use it on my little girls school vests, although I alternate with a Dr Beckmann whitener too.

The product is effective on silk as well as cottons. Now to use this product you don't simply chuck the product in to the washing machine like you do with some whiteners, you have to actually do something yourself! To start out you need to fill the sink or a bowl with hot water. Then you need to take out the two sachets from the box and equally mix the two together. There is an activator and a whitener. You don't chuck the lot in, there is enough for a good few uses (I would say 4 or 5), and if you keep this to doing all the items together (I usually do it about once a month), then the box will last ages. I buy about 2 boxes a year, and for around £2 per box it's better value than buying new underwear all the time (I obviously do buy new underwear but not every month!). After you have let the items soak for about half an hour, you can throw them in a hot wash in the washing machine and they come out sparkling.

I think this product is excellent value and provides lasting results. It is ideal for families or for people who perhaps don't separate colours before washing. It's gentle on the skin so no worries about using on young children's or even baby items. A good all rounder at a great price.

Summary: 5 stars
