I first discovered e-cloths several months ago when I was shopping in Lakeland, Windermere. As I picked up a pack another customer told me she always used e-cloths and thought they were fantastic. On reading the pack information I was impressed to see that e-cloths use no chemicals and claim to give excellent results. So what exactly is an e-cloth?
E-cloths are very similar to a duster to look at. However they allow you to clean without the need to use any chemicals. There are several different types of e-cloth on offer and all claim to save you money, time and be kinder to the environment. I decided to buy a general-purpose e-cloth. The general-purpose e-cloth comes in a square plastic cover. The cloth itself comes in several different colours including blue, green, pink and yellow. The cloth feels thick and slightly silky to touch. It resembles a large face cloth.
How does it work?
*****************
E-cloths are made from millions of micro fibres that trap and absorb dust and dirt. I love the fact that you don't need to use polish to get a dust free home. The general purpose E-cloth can be used dry for dusting or damp for cleaning glass, chrome, stainless steel or granite. E-cloths are machine washable and dry quickly too.
I have granite worktops in my kitchen and the E-cloth is particularly good at giving a really great shine. I simply use the E-cloth damp and rub the surface until it dries. You really don't need to use much elbow grease either! It is good at removing grease too.
E-cloths are excellent for cleaning stainless steel without smearing; again I have found the cloth works best when it is wet. The E-cloth can be used for all hard surfaces in your home including the bathroom and kitchen.
There are several E-cloths available including a starter pack containing 4 general purpose E-cloths and 1 glass cloth. The starter pack sells for around £16.99. Personally I don't think you need 4 general purpose E-cloths, as they are easy to wash and dry. The general purpose E-cloth is good for cleaning glass to so I'm not sure you need to buy another one. I paid £4.99 for my E-cloth although at the moment Lakeland has a buy one get one free offer on E-cloths.
The manufactures say that an E-cloth will last for over 300 washes but as I have only had mine for a few months I can't comment on the claim. It is recommended that the E-cloth be washed at 60 degrees so enable it to clean effectively. However I can say that My E-cloth still looks as good as new. It doesn't shed any fibres when used and overall it is a very effective way of cleaning.
Summary: Cleaning system without chemicals

- 24/07/08 My mum bought these ages ago but whilst I'm inclined to agree that they do last I still have cheap pound shop types which have lasted about the same time. But there are differences!
A mongst everything, I love using the Lakeland ones because used as a face cloth its really softer than my normal terry cloth types. |
