Advantages: It copes well with light cleaning
Disadvantages: The liquid struggles to disperse grease.
I keep telling the Other Half that he mustn't waste his pocket money on extravagant presents for me.
Well, it seems that last Wednesday he went for his normal wander up the High Street and by sheer accident walked straight past the jewellers shop and entered the realms of the tattiest discount store that has ever been known to man!
Now don't get me wrong, I am no stranger to `odd` gifts, many a household item has come my way after he has gone a wandering. But last weeks offering took the proverbial biscuit!
From out of the mouth of a very `unrecyclable` looking carrier bag he withdrew a double pack of what appeared to be washing up liquid. Such joy!
In our house the only dishwasher in site comes in the shape of ten rather podgy wrinkled fingers that seem to be permanently attached to the sink.
Anyway, the double pack of washing up liquid had been given the rather upmarket name `Easy`
This was my first `Easy` experience and not only had I got two bottles which were bound together with a clear plastic sheath, it seemed that they were an absolute bargain at the knock down price of 2 bottles for £1.
Beggars can't be choosers and I felt obliged to at least give the `gift` a trial run.
Both large bottles contain a bright green liquid that has been enriched with Aloe Vera, a plant extract that is known to be caring for your skin.
Each bottle is made of clear plastic and is shaped towards the top for easy handling, the top of the bottle is red plastic and has the normal pull up mechanism to release the liquid and then push down again to firmly close the bottle.
The bottle isn't highly decorative, just the product name and an Aloe Vera plant is positioned above at a jaunty angle.
Easy want to point out that their Aloe Vera washing up liquid was the first of its kind to appear on the UK market.
I am all set to begin my trial run:
I give the bottle a good firm squeeze and let a liberal amount of the emerald green liquid into my bowl full of hot water.
As per usual I swish my hand in the hot water and wait for hundreds of tiny frothy bubbles to appear - a minute or so later I am still waiting, in anticipation.
Two minutes later the water is cooling in the bowl and the bubbles have failed to make an appearance.
Being a stoic I carry on regardless, true grit and all that jazz!
My eggy plate is the ultimate test and I place it in the water and scrub firmly with the sponge scourer. Alas! The scourer feels greasy, the water looks greasy and the egg still adheres to the plate.
I have reached stalemate, I apply a good squirt of `Easy` directly onto the plate and pray.
After combining the liquid with a good bit of elbow grease the egg stained dish looks fine, no sign of grease or smears.
`Easy` coped well with the lightly soiled dishes, in fact it whizzed through them but it refused at the first, second and third fence when any grease was on the home front.
The thick green liquid has a slight smell that could be anything. But information on the bottle tells me that it hasn't been tested on animals, a blessing.
I am not a brand snob and I will always look out for the best buy but there are some areas where it is hard to make compromise, this seems to be one of them.
Unfortunately the `Easy` washing up liquid has failed to impress me and I have well over a bottle left. But seeing as it copes admirably with the lighter side of dish washing that is how I shall use up my remaining liquid, washing the odd tea dishes.
Maybe there are others out there in the wild blue yonder who find the `Easy` liquid the best thing since sliced bread but from my point of view it is lacking in certain areas.
So sorry Easy!
Summary: If the dishes are lightly soiled then the liquid can cope.
