Advantages: Pretty Accurate, Small, Works Well, Quality Product

Disadvantages: £4.99

We bought this egg timer thinking it would be a useful gadget, and it has turned out to be quite good. It costs around £4.99 and you can buy it from good supermarkets such as Tesco as well as other kitchenware stores. It comes within a plastic packet on a piece of cardboard in the background.

The item is shaped like an egg but flat on one side, so it rests on the bottom of the pan. You simply put it in the pan of water as soon as you put the eggs in before the water is boiling and it will work from there. The timer sinks to the bottom and simply rests there. It's made of such a material that obviously doesn't become damaged by the boiling temperatures.

It takes into account pressure, volume of water and temperature to estimate when the egg is cooked and how it's cooking. The top of the timer is all red, but this oval of redness diminishes over time as the egg cooks. There is a scale, which is white and can be seen pretty clearly beneath the water. It shows you when the egg is soft, medium and hard. This way, you can use the timer to cook your egg to perfection and I must say that it worked almost perfectly last time.

I'm not so sure it takes into account the size of the eggs as it can't really so I took mine out when the timer said medium, but it was quite hard inside. Still, it gives you a great idea of when the egg is cooked and mine may have differed as I only put it in when the water began boiling. It's a product worth having and I'd recommend it if you frequently boil eggs - whether it be one or five as it's bound to give an accurate result!

Thanks for reading,

Summary: A good little gadget to get perfect cooked boiled eggs every time!
