Advantages: It looks nice and smells nice

Disadvantages: You need to use a LOT to make it work

When shopping not long ago I needed washing up liquid and noticed a variety I hadn't seen before - Fairy Clean and Care. It was on offer at three for the price of two at the time and since Fairy is always good I thought I'd try it.

The current price at Asda is £1.37 for a 450ml bottle and the three fragrances available are aloe vera and cucumber, silk and orchid and almond extract. I remember the days when anything other than lemon was unusual!

The bottle is a little bit different in shape from the usual ones. It's squatter with curved ridges set into it. I suppose it looks OK but I don't really see the point in fancy washing up bottles but maybe that's just me.

The bottles is clear so that you can see how much liquid is left in it and the silk and orchid one is a light lavender sort of colour. The liquid is pearlescent and certainly looks nice enough.

Well it is all sounding good so far isn't it? Well if you just wanted to look at it - yes, it would be fine but it was when I tried using it that the problems started!

We all know that using the branded washing up liquids like Fairy rather than the supermarket ones such as Asda's own means that you don't need to use as much liquid per wash. So, I squeezed a small amount into my washing up bowl and ran lots of hot water onto it and waited for the bubbles. I would have had a long wait - there were hardly any!

Now, I know you don't need bubbles to wash the crocks, but it is generally an indication of the fact that there is enough liquid in the washing up bowl to do the job. In this case I could see by looking at the water that the amount of washing up liquid I had used just wasn't enough so I put more in - in fact I put a lot more in until I felt that the water was ready to be effective in doing my washing up.

The fragrance was very nice although as usual it is difficult to describe and the liquid didn't seem to dry my hands out although I don't normally have a problem with 'washday hands' anyway.

In conclusion I won't be buying this one again, although other varieties of Fairy are fine and I would certainly recommend those, but this one just doesn't work for me. I needed to use much more of this than I would need to use even with the non branded versions so it makes it very expensive!

Sorry, Fairy, this one's a dud as far as I am concerned.

Summary: A dud from Fairy
