Disadvantages: Looks like milk, dont be fooled!

**Intro**

A few months ago one of our girls came home from school upset at something her teacher had said. 'Mrs Strumpty said I was off with the fairies and I didn't know what she was talking about'. I explained that it just meant daydreaming or not concentrating properly. Wonder where she gets that from I thought as my mind was instantly transported to a drama lesson, the teacher waffling on, whilst I gazed out of the window watching the world go by. Or was it the rugby match and the delicious Mr Pearson...

Back to the present day, let me take you off with the fairies and introduce you to a product called Fairy Fabric Softener. This is a liquid fabric conditioner for adding to your clothes wash which reportedly is dermatologically proven to leave clothes kind and gentle, even next to delicate skin. You'll find this claim at www.fairynonbio.com/fm/home.htm

**Fairy Looks**

Fairy Fabric Softener comes in a clear plastic bottle with a baby blue cap (which doubles as a measuring gauge). The liquid is white and could easily be mistaken for milk (wicked thoughts for an April fool trick spring to mind). The familiar Fairy logo of a baby in a nappy hugging a towel is found on the label. The clear bottle allows you to see how much of the 750ml Fairy remains in the bottle. It is recommended that you add 55 ml to a full washing machine load. Usually this can be added to the washing machine pull out drawer as you load your machine. The softener is added during the final rinse. You can also use this for hand wasing but you will only need to use 18ml. Fairy Fabric Softener is available from most major supermarkets and is available in 750ml and may also be available in a larger sized bottle although I haven't as yet seen one.

Fairy Softener has been reviewed by Allergy UK and they have awarded Fairy Fabric Softener its British Allergy Foundation seal of approval. The Royal College of Midwives have also given their support to Fairy Softener.

**Come Try with Me**

Firstly, the all important sniff test. If a fabric softener doesn't smell good I will not buy it. As I do most of my shopping online, this is a problem. I would normally wait until I had visited a supermarket and had a whiff before purchasing but having bought Fairy non-bio liquid in the past, I suspected I'd like the smell and bought some anyway. It costs £1.39 for a 750 ml bottle in Sainsbury's. As it is a new product you are likely to find some money saving offers over the next few weeks.

Unscrewing the cap and having a sniff, I'd immediately give it 8 out of 10 for a pleasant smell. The nearest scent I can think of is lily of the valley.

Into the washing machine goes a load of washing along with a plastic ball containing my normal washing liquid, Persil Non-Bio. On the Fairy website it states that Fairy Softener is best used together with Fairy Non-Bio Liquid washing detergent. The final smell of your washing will be influenced by the washing product that you use with the Softener. I only have Persil in the house so I'll have to stick with that. If you or other members who share the machine wash with you have sensitive skin, a non-bio detergent should be used.

An hour or so later and it's time to unload. I don't normally do a sniff test on wet washing, this time I will and I notice that my nicely spun washing does indeed smell good. Most of the washing now gets to be hung on the ceiling rack including all my favourite knickers but there are some things which always go in the tumble drier. Socks for example…6 persons x 7 pairs = a weekly sock count of 84 individual socks. Towels too, because they dry rock hard and crispy otherwise. My skin is slightly sensitive so sandpaper towels are a big no-no.

Of the washing that ended up in the drier, removed whilst warm, the results of the Fairy Softener are thus, flowers and summer and sunshine…It's time to have a trip off with the fairies on a damp, wet day…Close your eyes…. Enter a land of white and pure where the paths are white satin and white lilies and daisies line the street. Diamond lights twinkle in the white branches of the silvery white trees and the sky is a mass of cotton wool clouds. The smell is of deliciously sweet lily of the valley and jasmine, warm sunshine streams forth. Little white rabbits hop around and a fat white cat lies curled on a white cushioned wicker chair. Kids in white kit kick a white football on a white linen pitch and fluffy white fairies hover above the flowers and… rinnngggg...oh no, not that nutty neighbour at the door again. Bet she wants to borrow some milk. I couldn't, could I?

**Fairy Good?**

It smells good, is gentle on skin, and my washing is as soft as my other favourite fabric conditioner (which is actually made by the same company and comes in exactly the same shaped bottle with a yellow colour instead of white). The additional benefit of Fairy Softener is that it is suitable for sensitive skin. All in all, thumbs up from me.

Thanks for reading.

Summary: Pleasant smeeling fabric softener, suitable for sensitive skin.
