Advantages: Pleasant smell, soft & gentle on skin, cleans well
Disadvantages: Coming across purple washing up liquid in a supermarket may be initially off-putting
I find I we usually have Fairy for washing up liquid out of habit, as it's a reliable brand we've used for years. With their range expanding, the Lavender scent caught my eye and we've now used it a couple of times quite happily.
Fairy are probably the most popular choice when it comes to washing up liquids, made famous by their advertising campaigns. The earliest and most memorable is probably the one with Nanette Newman playing the mother to Leslie Ash as they use Fairy on a bowl of dishes. Since then, they're popularity has increased, as has their range, and they seem to have become a classic, well-known brand.
Fairy is produced by Proctor & Gamble UK, so you expect a quality product from such a prestigious company with years of knowledge & experience. That's important when it comes to things in the kitchen, so it's good to rest assured you're using something that works to get rid of germs and get your washing up clean and hygienic.
Fairy's Lavender washing up liquid is sold in a plastic bottle that is rich purple in colour. There's a flip-top lid which is easy to open and the overall design makes it easy to hold and squirt whilst washing up.
Each 450ml bottle costs around £1, with Asda selling these at 98p. A good price in my opinion for something that smells nice and actually does as it promises. Considering their popularity, these should be quite easy to come across in supermarkets.
They claim the liquid should get rid of grease and stains, whilst being kind to hands. When using this, I only put a couple of squirts into the bowl whilst filling it with warm water. The liquid quickly mixes around, rather than sitting at the bottom, and bubbles up nicely.
The smell is of lavender, which I thought a bit strange for washing plates with, but it's pleasant without being overpowering. The scent is actually quite refreshing, so it was lovely to use. It was kind on my hands to, so if you have sensitive skin this should be okay to use without causing itching.
Cleaning a mound of washing up is made easier with Fairy, because the stains, residue and grease comes away very quickly. The end result is your stack of washing up on the draining board, all clean and sparkly, without too much effort. I found it worked well even in a pan used for frying chips in sunflower oil, so it does seem to do what it says on the bottle.
Summary: Recommended for a quality product that does what it claims to leave your dishes clean
