Advantages: Great cleaning power and lasts ages
Disadvantages: More expensive than budget brands
Washing up is one of my least favourite housework jobs, what makes it worse it that we always seem to have a pile of stuff waiting to be washed. We do own a dishwasher but have a lot of items that we use regularly and don't have spares of, we need to wash these by hand for use between putting the dishwasher on.
When I left home to study I was living in shared accommodation and so used lots of different brands of washing up liquid, most of them cheap ones. I always found that we went through the bottles really quickly as you had to use loads to get your dishes clean. Once I had graduated and moved into my first home I started using Fairy as this is what my Mum had always bought and our dishes and glasses were always sparkly clean!
Packaging
The bottle has changed a lot over the years but the Fairy logo with a baby and the red bottle top have remained the same. The cap has improved in quality over the years and it is easy to open and close. It allows you to squirt out the amount of liquid you need and the cap doesn't get messy or let the liquid dribble down the bottle.
It is a clear bottle shaped to be easy to pick up and squeeze even with wet hands. It has labels on the back and front, mine has antibacterial action which is stated on the front. The back label warns you to avoid contact with eyes and to keep it out of the reach of children.
Using Fairy
I use the lime and lemongrass Fairy as I love the fresh fragrance it has. You only need to add a small amount to your washing up bowl to have a bowl full of bubbles. It cuts through dirt on plates, glasses and saucepans without too much effort from my washing up sponge. When rinsed off everything is always squeaky clean. As you only need to use a small amount a bottle lasts for ages which I think makes it great value.
As I use it to wash up my toddlers bowls, spoons and beakers I like that it has an antibacterial action and will be removing the germs I can't see as well as the food I can.
Kind to hands?
Yes, this washing up liquid doesn't dry my skin out and I wash up a few times everyday and am quite sensitive to things.
Price and availability
Widely available from supermarkets I bought mine when it was on offer as Tesco. A 433ml bottle currently costs £1.49 at Tesco or you can buy 2 for £2.50 at Asda. As it is regularly on offer it is worth waiting for one to take advantage of the lower price.
Would I recommend?
Yes, even though we have changed to a lot of own brand items in an attempt to save money I'm sticking with my Fairy for washing up.
Summary: Worth paying the extra for
