Advantages: Gets dishes clean, Bubbles last longer, Good on fried stuff!

Disadvantages: Not cheap

There is nothing more exciting than washing the dishes. The wide choice of washing up liquids. The excitement of finding the correct water temperature. The joy of rinsing the plates before you submerge them in the bowl. The agony of being forced to rewash a dish that still has one of the morning's corn flakes stuck to it, only noticed as you come to dry.

Life in Opinonsville is one great joy.

So, what do I use to help me enjoy washing the dishes? None other than Fairy Liquid.

Although coming in a range of "flavours"? I prefer lemon. Simply because it looks nicer in the kitchen than the "original" green offering. The others are Floral Breeze and Springfresh Apple Blossom. No sign, yet, of Curried Wind. There are also three sizes of bottle. 375ml (these have the added benefit of being anti-bacterial but cost the same as the next size up), 500ml and 1 litre. Typical prices are 88p for the two smaller sizes and £1.75 for the large bottles. You can, invariably, find special offers in the major supermarkets. Typically, 3 for 2 on the smaller bottles, or 3 for £2. It is rare that I will ever buy without there being an offer on. Tesco currently charge £1.29 for the large bottles, so I have a couple stashed under the kitchen sink as we speak.

Anyway, what is so good about this stuff?

Well, it helps clean dishes. I have compared it to all the supermarket own brands, Persil and Morning Fresh. Without doubt, Fairy wins the day. The bubbles last for longer (grrr Nanette Newman shut it!). The plates are consistently cleaner after a soak in Fairy. It is, beyond doubt, better than the rest. And it is effective on frying pans and the like. Not to mention the rocket you can make out of the bottle when it is eventually empty!

Excitingly, the Queen uses this stuff. It says so on the bottle. She may well wear gloves while washing up, as the instructions on the bottle recommend no dire
ct contact with the liquid if you have sensitive or damaged skin. My step daughter keeps telling me she needs some gloves and I keep forgetting to buy them!

Proctor & Gamble make it. The information on the bottle tells me that the non ionic surfactants are between 5 - 15% and the anionic surfactants are between 15 - 30%. If you have any interest at all in knowing what this means, ring P&G free on 0800 328 5901 as I have no idea.

The bottom line is that while not cheap, you can usually pick this stuff up at better value in a special offer. Moreover, it does a damn good job of washing up.

I like it!

I love fairy - I like the pink one, and the purple one the best....although the blue one is rather nice too!
