Advantages: works great on grease
Disadvantages: makes my hands dry
Unless you eat and drink from paper plates and cups, or you eat out every night, then you will need to do some washing up occasionally. For this the best washing up liquid I can recommend is Fairy. We all remember the adverts ‘ hands that do dishes can feels as soft as your face, mild green fairy liquid.’ We now own a dishwasher, so we do not have to use washing up liquid very often, but we always keep a bottle in the cupboard for an emergency. My dad also likes to use it when he has been fixing his car because he says it gets the oil of his hands easily. Fairy washing up liquid can be brought from all supermarkets and general stores. It comes in a clear plastic bottle and is made by Proctor and Gamble. There is a white bubble on the front of the bottle that tells you what it is. The thick green liquid can be seen through the bottle. Fairy does cost more than the supermarket’s own brand washing up liquids. I have a 500ml bottle. To use this product you squirt a little bit of the liquid under running water. This foams up very quickly so be careful not too use too much as the kitchen will be filled with bubbles and it will take ages to get rid of them. Fairy washing up liquid gets rid of grease really easily and leaves your plates, dishes and glasses gleaming and clean. The original fairy washing up liquid has a pleasant smell to it, and it is also available in lemon and also an anti bacterial version. This product is advertised in way that tells you this product will leave your hands soft, well the only complaint I have about this washing up liquid is that this doesn’t leave my hands very soft at all. After I have used this product and then dried my hands I find that they feel very dry and I usually need to apply moisturising hand cream to get them to feel nice again. There is some hand care advice on the back of the bottle of Fairy liquid that I have, it tells you that after use, rinse your han
ds and dry them thoroughly. As for all detergents, if you have damaged or sensitive skin, avoid prolonged contact with the liquid and washing solution. Fairy liquid has been around for many years and I remember when I was younger I used the bottle to make things off ‘blue peter’. If you have young children and want to keep them amused for a while, Fairy washing up liquid makes good bubbles. All you need is a little container pour in some of the washing up liquid and add a little bit of water. Blowing this liquid through a small ring will make good bubbles. I recommend this washing up liquid.

- 09/01/04 I use fairy too (the purple one to match my kitchen!) and like you, I find that my hands feel really dry after I've done the washing up. |
