We have today had our gutters, fascia and soffit replaced by Summit Roofguard from Hall Green and I feel compelled to advise of our experience.
We have been looking for repair work to be done for ages as we know the fascia was rotten, the gutter was leaking and it looked a mess. We received a cold call from the company but thought we would give them the opportunity to show us their products. The representative arrived promptly and was very polite and helpful, he was never pushy and listened to our thoughts. My only concern was his length of call time as after two hours u had truly heard enough. The first price offered was high and we told him that we were not interested and to his credit he was not pushy and left it there. We liked the product and again, to the companies credit they called us a few days later to ask our opinion on the representative and the product. They finally made us a final offer and as it was approx the figure we wanted to pay we decided to go for it and signed up the following day. Throughout the whole experience they have been very polite and not pushy at all, not like some of the companies that knock our door. any way the surveyor arrived on the 17th January and the fitters arrived at 9.00am on 24th January and finished today (25th) at 3.00pm and have done a really really good job and we are very pleased. The fitters were proffessional and the only thing left as I write this review is for the rubbish to be collected which will be tomorrow (26th) and then we are left with an excellent product installed neatly and efficiently by a courteous and professional company. So thanks to Summit Roofguard and any one wanting my opinion is welcome to come and view our house in Stroud Road in Shirley to see the product. Overall mark 9.5 out of 10!!! ( only lose half a point for duration of first visit which just doesn't need to be two and a half hours)
Summit Roofguard, Birmingham.
I have just had my soffits, facias and guttering replaced by this firm and having read some very damming reviews on this company I was unsure of whether to commit to them doing the work or not. But having had several other companies give me quotes and demonstrations on their products I decided to go with them as to me they came out the best although not being the cheapest their product seemed far superior to others. I can say I am well pleased with the final result. The sales person was very good at his job and not at all pushy or pressuring in his approach to making a sale. The price was very reasonable and the job was done very quickly.
The workmen were very nice and sociable and very quick and efficient doing their job. They also cleaned all my existing windows and left the property in exactly the way they found it. All the rubbish that was left was collected the next day by someone else contracted to them to do just that. He also left my property in the manner in which it should have been. In all I found the end result exellent and I wouldn't hessitate in recommending them to anyone else.
Guttering is not the most exciting topic in the world but I just wanted to share a couple of really useful suppliers that I have discovered. My guttering on my conservatory fell off after the heavy snow we experienced earlier this year and after a month of nagging from my other half, decided it was time I did something about it.
THE BIG STINKER
The issue that I had was that after buying my house, the company who had built the conservatory had ceased trading. I did try some other local companies and even resorted to DIY stores, only to find that nobody seemed to stock the brackets required.
Fortunately there was a product number on one of the brackets and when I typed this into Google, was amazed by how many other people had experienced the same issue following the snow. The brackets in question are the RS32790 clips for the Wendland gutter system which actually attach to the top of the gutter and fix directly into the conservatory facia.
LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
I found two companies who were able to supply the clips with the first being Capitall Systems (www.capitallsystems.com). I contacted the company and spoke to a really helpful lady. After explaining the issue with my guttering she knew the product code off by heart as a number of people had placed orders recently. She also advised that Capitall Systems actually fabricate the brackets which was useful to know. I was amazed that the brackets only cost £1.40 each so as I needed 20 in total, the cost was about £40 with delivery and VAT. After placing my order I took delivery of the new brackets the very next day.
I also contacted a company called Ultra Frame (www.ultraframe.co.uk) who were even more helpful. I received a very nice email from their Technical Support Team saying that they would supply me with the brackets free of charge as a gesture of goodwill. So now I have 40 clips all for £40 - bargain!
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
I am a big advocate of good customer service and it's so refreshing when you stumble across a company that actually take pride in their level of service. Should you have any issues with your guttering, I would highly recommend trying both of these companies. I cannot necessarily guarantee that you will get the parts free of charge, but they are certainly a delight to deal with.
Im sorry to say that i too fell for the sales patter. I sat through a 4 hour talk only to be told that if i did not replace my guttering and joists etc my roof would cave in. It seemed like a good deal they were going to do my roof, felt, nests everything, and what could i do... they said my roof would definately cave in and i have a 3 yr old son.
so i agreed. and after being told what a major job it was a bloke turned up and replaced my guttering in a couple hours! told me there was nothing wrong with my roof. In fact showed me the guttering which id been told was rotten and causing damp! Everything was fine. a small blockage was all they could find fault with. Over 1000 to replace guttering that never needed replacing, and they have the nerve to say i received a discount!
iv been advised not to pay. I did not sign to say i was satisfied and according to their own website, if you are not satisfied, you dont pay till you are! They are taking me to court and i say fine. They have been very underhandhowever, ringing the courts pretending to be me and cancelling apointments. I would avoid this company like the plague. iv read of a few people who have been lied to like me and im writing to watchdog and rogue traders. Plese though dont be fooled by their initial charm. Rogue traders.
Review of Summit Roofguard. I am ashamed to say I fell for the sales tactics, the saleswoman told us she'd "bet a week's wage" that by buying their product it would fix a leak in our back bedroom. So we went for it even though according to several price comparison sites, Summit were overpriced, because we thought they would fix our leak. Needless to say, the paraphernalia they fitted has not fixed the leak, and on top of that we are being asked to pay extra for setting up an "account", which we were told would avoid the need for a deposit, but would cost no more than paying by cheque, provided we settled in full before interest started to accrue. We did as such and lo and behold, we are being asked for a £75 "admin charge". They are not prepared to budge and we are taking the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. I feel like an idiot for trusting these people, do not be fooled!
had my gutters replaced by window zone, i think they've done d job alright butwhat i hated from them is that they don't turn up on agreed date. took them more dan a week from the agreed date before they turned up.. quite upset of waiting really esp u have paid for d deposit already. have still got a job waiting for them to be finished, nearly a month now still not done. the guy said will come on this day but again never turned up! PRetty bad!!! will NOT RECOMMEND!!! avoid him if u can d man does talk a lot and sounds very promising but never believe him.....
rubbish, don't waste your time. Quality of workmanship was very shoddy and had lots of leaks since
I am full of remorse for the day Ilet the salesman from Summit through my door. After 3 hours of high pressure sales tactics I gave in and agreed that they should replace my fascia and guttering. At neraly £5000 it was not a cheap job. I was promised:
Scaffolding would not be used - an easy access system would --no they worked off ladders, had there been an accuident I would have been liable
A stat of the art ventiltaion system would be installed - no they did not
They would check my roof timbers and replace rottten ones - no they did not
They would clear up their mess and be polite - no they did not and no they were not.
Worst of all I deiscovered that my neighbour, who has an identical house, was quoted £1600 for the same job. Hard to believe but I have copies of the quotes.
Do not trust this company they do not deliver on their promises and their workmanship is the worst I have seen. They promise the earth and deliver the worst! I have leaking gutters and fascias that look like they've been the victims of a nuclear attack
I notice form one of your reviews that one of your members used the same company as us to replace their soffits, fascias and guttering and i am delighted to be able to endorse their review. Last summer we decided to replace our wooden fascia boards with white plastic as we only saw one company I am unable to offer any comment on the competition however it must be said that the service we recieved from summit was extremely good. After a call from their salesman who first of all explained that Summit were members of the guild of master craftsman and showed us a very impressive sample we decided not to get other quotes but to purchase from them and signed an agreement that evening. Following the vist of their surveyor the fitting team arrived approx one week later and during the next three days completely replaced all the fascias, soffits and downpipes on our property. I believe the job to be of excellent quality and at this time I am pleased that we chose this particular company. My only critisium is that on one occasion the installers turned up for work rather late which was rather inconvenient.
On a happier note when we had occasion to report a leaking gutter (some three weeks later) ther service man arrived within four hours, put the job right and we have had no further problems. I believe that after sales service is important and I am happy to report that this company kept their word.
We decided earlier in the year to get our wooden fascia boards replaced with upvc as the old ones were starting to rot and they were looking ugly against our new upvc windows. We phoned a reputable double glazing company who sent a man out the next evening. The salesman stayed for over four hours and after lots of pressure finally bought the price down to £3400. We were so put off we left it. A month or so later we had a leaflet through the door from a local man offering to do our house for £600, we rang him up and he came round on a sunday morning, he said he would cover the existing wood with plastic and that to have downpipes would be extra, he quoted £820. I told him that the wood was rotting in places and would need to be taken off, he said it just looked bad and to cover it would be fine, that made me nervous so I asked him lots of questions only to discover that he was the whole company, he would be fitting tham as well. He could only give me a mobile number and I was worried that we would not get a proper guarantee so I never rang him back. two weeks ago we got a call from Summit Roofguard and invited them round, the salesman was a nice bloke who told us so much about what was involved, showed me a full guarantee and assured me that all the wood would be stripped off, new felt put in and any rotten battens treated etc. We placed an order, they were not cheap but very much a fair price for the work involved (even prepared to guarantee that the boards would stay white) I would never want to go so cheap as to pay £820 for a cowboy to do a shoddy job that we would only have to get done again. The surveyor came out the next day to take accurate measurement, he checked everything and even drove us to another house that they had just done to have a look. The fitters arrived the following week at 9am. They were fantastic, I can't believe how hard they worked, there was so much rubbish and muck up there, even an old birds nest that we never knew was there, they worked solid for two and a half days. The difference to our home is amazing, it makes such a difference to the look of our home and it stands out so much from next door who had the wood covered, you can see the quality of what we have had done. I would reccomend them to anyone.
My partner arranged for a visit by Home Counties Cladding to come round in the evening after one of their representives cold called during the day. He came round, looked at what i wanted done (New front Guttering, new front down-pipe, Barge boards, rear guttering etc..,) priced it up and came to a figure of £1520.00. I agreed and had 14 days to change my mind once i had given a deposit of £340.00 which he took by cheque on the day. I changed my mind and reduced the order to just the front with new down-pipe and the barge boards, this came in at £870.00. Took about two months to actually come round and do the work (which was done while we were at work...this was pre-arranged, but we also had to supply the electricity for their tools). Got home that evening to find that 1) they had put the wrong colour guttering up 2) the new down-pipe was placed directly over my house number 3) all they had done was swapped over the old with the new but no soffits etc.., was added. I phoned to complain and was told it had to be in writing which i did and stated i would with-hold payment due till fixed. They came back, changed the colour of the guttering and moved the down-pipe across but no soffits etc.., phoned again, this time with them stating that in the contract i signed the soffits etc.., wasn't included even though when i ordered the work with their representive i was given the impression that i was having all this work done and this was the first time i had ever had this sort of work done. Because i had signed a contract there wasn't anything i could do, but they had to come back again as they had not filled in the drill holes from moving the down-pipe. I found them to be extremely expensive for the work they done (this includes having to supply them with electricity......no cordless tool)
Requiring replacement of my wooden fascias, I contacted "The Home improvement Specialists"/Thetford Home Improvement Services(T.H.I.S.) of 9 Telford Way, Thetford. Though I decided to have the work done by another company, I did place an order with T.H.I.S. for some replacement Guttering Brackets for my conservatory. The order was placed on 17 July 2003 after T.H.I.S. confirmed that they could supply the brackets. I visited the company twice in July/August to enquire as to the whereabouts of my brackets. I was told that they were expected soon and that I would be notified when they arrived. I heard nothing more and visited again on 10 September to be told by the salesman that they had been received but were returned to the supplier because they were the 'wrong colour'. I expressed my unhappiness at the companies performance and requested the return of my £28 deposit. This was refused(the boss was on holiday!). I then asked that I be contacted the following week once the boss had returned. Four weeks on I have heard nothing from T.H.I.S. and 12 weeks after placing the order I still have guttering missing from my conservatory and am £28 out of pocket. A company which is so financially strapped that it cannot return a £28 deposit when it fails to supply a product within a reasonable time; is so lacking in diligence in fulfilling an order; and cannot be bothered to keep a customer informed, does not deserve your custom. If you live in the Thetford area and want double-glazing roofline products or a conservatory, I would strongly advise against having anything to do with T.H.I.S. of Thetford
This does not sound the classiest of names for a fascia and guttering company but I would like to say that the work this company has done on my house is excellent. I own a threebroom semi which needed new sofits and barge boards so I gave this company a call. They quoted less than £900 for the job, which was great. The work men arrived exactly as planned and stripped the old boards and guttering off and had the new fixtures and fittings up in one day! I know its only been a year or so but the finish of the upvc still looks good and there have been no drippy gutters or down pipes that miss the drains. The two guys who installed the product were very proffesional and took care to leave a clean well finished job. I would recommend them to anyone. This is a UK company.
I changed our fascias and gutterings a couple of years ago as the old ones were about 50 years old and therefore due for replacement. This job is fairly straightforward to do for any keen diyer and the end results will improve the appearance of your house no end. Having heard of some very excessive quotes from double glazing / fascia companies I was suprised at just how cheap this job can be done. Our semi cost £140 for the guttering and £110 for the upvc fascias and fixings. Some friends with a similar house had been quoted £3000 by a double glazing firm, but about £1200 to £2000 seems to be the going rate. The mark up on this job is very excessive. Got the gutters from B&Q Warehouse, the upvc bits from a small local company who gave some really good advice as to what I should & shouldn't do with it. Took 4 days to finish and now saves me having to do the yearly painting of the old gutters and fascias.
