Advantages: great smell
Disadvantages: a trifle strong
Having three slightly whiffy cats (well, to be honest, it's really just one of them who has 'personal freshness' issues but I try not to be discriminatory!)...I have tried various remedies for restoring the house to that 'Estate Agent Ready' freshness.
Of course, I am not actually selling my house now (it's just too depressing in the current climate) but, were you to be reckless enough to throw yourself to the sharks, I could thoroughly recommend these vanilla scented candles from Febreze.
I always thought the idea of the Febreze spray for 'covering up'niffy odours was slightly repulsive and their adverts are hardly aspirational. I would always rather open a window than pollute my house with a cocktail of chemicals but as it has been sub zero temperatures, I thought I might give the scented candle option a go.
Now, I should point out that, as a bloke, I am not normally given to lighting natty little candles, (especially chocolate ones!) but this Febreze candle (apart from being on special offer at £3.98 in Sainsbury's - normal price £5.99), is chunky and comes in a reasonably butch glass container!
The description on the side of the box says that 'it combines light scents of fruit topped with rich vanilla and a dusting of cinnamon, reminding you of savoury vanilla in its purest form'.
All I know it that there is something about this particular vanilla scent which is intoxicating - maybe it's that warm, custardy, comforting ... that, alls-well-with-the-world feeling (even if only for the duration of the candle - which claims is 'up to 30 hours' on the box!)... but I'm hooked.
These candles certainly claim to be odour eliminating and I must admit I couldn't detect Tiddles' aroma for quite some time!
Although they come with all sorts of peculiar diagrammatic warnings on the box (which in itself is like deciphering some kind of code) - one of the diagrams seems to suggest you shouldn't sit in a rocking chair while it is alight but perhaps I just don't get it!
These candles come in other 'flavours' - Morning Dew, Cotton Fresh and there was a festive Apple Spice one at Christmas too - but I haven't tried those yet.
Summary: Butch candle that doesn't get on my wick.
Summary: good genuine smell
