Advantages: Smells fresh and clean. Can use on most fabrics.

Disadvantages: Takes a while to dry. Does not totally eliminate bad smells.

As the owner of three dogs I tend to be more accepting of bad smells than a lot of people are! Nevertheless, I am constantly trying to control unpleasant odours in the home by using air fresheners, plug-ins, carpet powder like Shake N' Vac or fabric fresheners like this product from Febreze.

I first bought this as I thought it would be a good product to use on my dogs' baskets inbetween washes. I had also seen a commercial for the product where a housewife was using it on just about every fabric in the house (including linen and laundry) as well as spraying it into the air - so I was impressed by the fact this would be a multi-purpose freshener.

The product comes as a 500ml bottle which has a trigger action pump spray design. The bottle is slightly moulded around the top making it easier to grip. The trigger is quite long and sturdy too and is very easy to press down. There is a nozzle at the end of the spout which can twist to be closed or open - this means no accidental spillage. The whole top can be screwed off the bottle if necessary and I find that at the end of usage I like to fill my bottle with water and use the spray as an aid to ironing laundry - this means the water is fragranced by the remnants of the liquid left in the bottle! It works a treat and means nothing gets wasted.

The label on the back of the bottle explains in illustrations what the product can be used on. These include: bed linen, sofas. curtains, clothes and pet bedding. The information includes a warning to test all fabrics on a hidden area before use. I have never had any discolouration or problems associated with using this product although I do tend to avoid applying it to more delicate fabrics.

I initially tried this on my pet bedding. The spray is dispensed in a fine but abundant mist which tends to float down over the fabric. It is a water consistency so takes a while to dry. Although the product is available in a range of fragrances I tried the 'Classic' fragrance first. The aroma of this is sharp, fresh and clean. The fragrance is never overpowering though and it does not leave you choking or gasping for breath like some similar products do!

Whilst it did not totally eliminate the doggy smells it did a good job in freshening the fabric. It definately dampened down the bad smells and filled the air with a pleasing, fresh aroma. I then began to use the Febreze on other fabrics like cushions, curtains and doormats and I find that this really has a cleansing effect on the air in these areas. Whilst this claims to eliminate odours I would say that the bad smells are simply disguised for a while. This is still a great help to me though!

I find that Febreze is particularly good when used on clothes as I can still recognise the sharp, waterfall fresh aroma when I take clothes out of the closet to wear.

This product can not be used on leather or silk.
