Advantages: AN ALMOST INSTANT DEODORISING FABRIC FRESHENER THAT REALLY WORKS ON STRONG ODOURS...
Disadvantages: MORE EXPENSIVE THAN CONVENTIONAL 'AIR' FRESHENERS.
Now most of will know all about 'Febreze' and its well advertised deodorising liquid qualities, as it's been around a while now - with the makers Procter and Gamble coming up with evermore exotic fragrances like 'Summer Splash', and even a hint of 'Lenor' in one of their bottles...
However, I have sprayed this fabulous solution on more 'unusual' items than the usual sofas, curtains and carpets it freshens up in no time at all; plus it's a dammed sight quicker than whipping out the old heavy machine carpet cleaner, that seems to weight as much as a small Sherman Tank!
The less 'normal' uses include spritzing spilt milk in the car boot that smelt odious for days afterwards - despite me scrubbing it, until it was zapped with Febreze; the front door part carpet, part rubber mat - and best/worst of all, *Bob* the boyfriend's Ex-Military clog-hopper type boots that smell like a pair of skunks have crawled in one each to die!
I can also admit to squirting Emo/Goth's foot-rotting Converse trainers while she wasn't looking...but 'Shhh', don't tell her!
So I guess you get the gist about how effective I think this 'Fabric Refresher' really is - I absolutely swear by it...and so do the souls of the two poor deceased skunks!
Of course like most consumers, I have tried a couple of the 'newer' scented Febrezes - but still come back to the old faithful 'Classic' scent, as I love the pleasant after-smell that lingers long after the spray has been left to absorb and dry.
Designed especially for fabrics that can be difficult to nigh on impossible to machine wash; from sofa coverings to large curtains that may well be dry clean only - or large carpeted areas that can benefit from a definite aromatic sprucing up.
According to the makers: 'Febreze Classic eliminates odours and freshens with a classic scent', and in my opinion it does exactly what it claims to do.
I remember when these hit the shop shelves thinking it was a bit of a gimmick, and how could anything possibly do all that it claimed on the back of the blue-tinted plastic spray-triggered container?
On trying my 500ml sized bottle that I originally paid £1.99 for many moons ago, I was amazed that at how efficiently the very fine misted spray actually did make a definite difference to some materials - such as seated areas, floor rugs; and even items as clothing such as heavy jackets or woollen coats.
The bottle I have at the moment that I am reading my review information from (as well as the actual www.febreze.co.uk website), is a 1litre mega-carton in which I got 100% extra free for the princely sum of £2.95 - a veritable bargain in my eyes, as it's lasted absolute months...and I still have a smidge left!
When reading the Febreze website, it says: 'Everyday odours get trapped in fabrics in your home and gradually get released into the air over time. With our patented odour elimination technology and best ever freshness, Febreze tackles the odours in fabrics and helps your home stay fresh'.
Well I for one have blitzed my three piece suite many a time before a 'Royal Visit' from my mum - or other such important dignitaries, and they compliment me every time on how lovely my home smells, bless!
Start at the doormat, work your way through the house spraying anything none-organic that is textile-based and doesn't move, then you can't fail to impress, honestly!
Of course with anything chemical-based, you have to be aware of the Do's and Don'ts too.
Febreze is not to be used on suede, leather or silk due to the possibility of staining or dyes running.
It is also an irritant to the eyes if inadvertently splashed in them, so should be rinsed off immediately - although the liquid is dermatologically tested, which is great if like me you suffer with sensitive skin conditions.
The mixture also contains 'preservative', however on my product there are no ingredients listed, apart from that one.
On the back of the container there are both picture illustrations on what the solution is suitable for, as well as written advice such as testing a hidden area on any 'delicate fabrics' first for obvious reasons.
This gorgeous-smelling mist should be sprayed approximately 30cms away from the desired area until damp, and then left to completely adsorb.
I always try and make the room well ventilated to speed up the drying process, but then I do tend to be a bit heavy-handed as it smells so fresh and clean, that I get a bit carried away *blush*!
If we are truthful, there are times in our homes where it smells less than pleasant - thus anything that helps to neutralise the less desirable pongs has got to be a plus in my book.
Febreze is certainly not the cheapest option out there it has to be said - I even tried an 'own brand' store product once in its place, with less than successful results...
Nevertheless, in the long run it more than pays for itself in regards to its effectiveness in refreshing many, many mainstream household furnishings - as well as the more 'unusual' items, Ahem!
Summary: A MUST-HAVE ADDITION TO THE HOUSEHOLD'S 'CLEANING CUPBOARD' PRODUCTS!
