Our dishwasher is less than two moths old. Inside it we found a box of salt, two powerball tablets a squirt or two of rinse aid and a Finish Citro Dishwasher Deodoriser (try saying that after a couple of sweet sherries!) To be honest i was dubious of the thing, it doesnt look like much, a piece of soft yellow plastic (about the size of a pound coin) with an integrated hook for attaching to the top basket. The first few uses of the machine were sans-citro and that usual stale-greasy smell thats commonly associated with dishwashers started to linger in the kitchen every time the door was opened, so in with the yellow peril. The next wash presented us with a pseudo lemon freshness, which we could both smell through the house the next morning. Dont get me wrong this is not a taxi air freshener sort of smell, its subtler than that, and more soapy smelling to be mistaken for real lemons. Well i was shocked when i saw them in the supermarket for nearly £2, but seeing as this one has lasted two months, and its still good, then i think one will make it into the basket quite comfortably. HSIBOY P.S we suggested them to an aunty, and she was sceptical, but her dishwasher being older (and a little more odorous) has benefited a great deal from the addition of the Finish Citro Dishwasher Deodoriser ** UPDATE ** Almost overnight ours has lost its smell. It hasn?t faded away, its just gone. The thing is we?ve just tried using Asda brand rinse aid, so i don?t know if this is the cause. We had been using finish rinse aid. I hope i haven?t killed it.
I only just paid enough attention to notice these on the supermarket shelf. priced at £1.99 each I was a bit dubious about buying one but I thought I'd try anyway. Lemon scented and shaped like a disc, they just hook onto one of the racks....make sure the arm doesnt hit it. The first few times I used my dishwasher the lemon scent drifted right through the house. The freshener lasted about 2 months so was well worth the money. I suppose the lasting time depends on how often you use your dishwasher. My dirty dishes came out smelling fresh but not overpowering, and my dishwasher is kept deodorised. Definately a must have.
These deodorisers from Finish are a fantastic idea ? they have a hook at the top, which attaches to your top shelf. Every time you open the dishwasher you get a wave of lemon ? much batter than stale food. Make sure that it is really attached well ? the 2nd one I used fell off mid cycle and managed to melt itself to the heating element underneath. It took hours to get it off and some stayed on the element, which took weeks to burn off ? now I attach the hook and add a little bag tie to hold it in place. They are well worth there money if you don?t switch the dishwasher on everyday
