I like the idea of improving the dishwasher powders and tablets all the time. They get better with a little bit and more expensive with a lot.
I found that Sainsbury's powder is good enough for me but last time I was in Sainsbury's and wanted to buy dishwasher powder Finish was on offer so I decided to buy the branded one this time. Even my dishwasher deserves some treat occasionally. As I didn't throw out the plastic tub of the Sainsbury's dishwasher powder I decided to buy a refill bag. I don't remember at what price did I actually buy but its full price is 4.78 pounds per 2 kg. It is available in most of the supermarkets.
Why I prefer powder to tablets?
I have a small Bosch dishwasher because only this little one fitted my kitchen. I can put 12 plates and 10 glasses in it so a tablet is too big and I feel it is a waste to put a whole tablet for about one third of the normal dishwasher capacity. The gel would be suitable too but I am so content with the powder that I haven't even tried it.
Smell and texture
After I opened the refill bag to pour it into the big yellow tub I felt strong citrus smell with some strong chemical smell. The powder consists of little white granules but there are red and blue granules among the white too. Overall the white granules dominate the refill bag (cca. 98%).
What they promise?
Finish PowerPowder provides the ultimate clean in every wash! Because it contains StainSoakers, its powerful formula removes even difficult stains like dried-on lasagne to ensure a brilliant finish! Finish 2in1 Deo+Fresh eliminates malodours and leaves a clean, fresh scent in your dishwasher. Finish Dishwasher Cleaner eliminates grease and limescale and a cleaner dishwasher means cleaner dishes!
What I have found?
I found that my dishes are absolutely clean and the dishwasher had fresh lemon scent. I have an old strainer which was slightly pitted and now it is almost completely clean just after a wash. So I think the Finish PowerPowder is really strong and cleans effectively the dishes.
15 - 30 % Phosphates, < 5 % Oxygen-based Bleaching Agents, < 5 % Non-ionic surfactants, Contains Enzymes (Protease, Amylase), Contains Perfume (Limonene).
The manufacturer of Finish dishwasher products is Reckitt Benckiser (Welton Road, Swindon, SN5 7XZ).
This product is very irritant so keep it away from children and your eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. If swallowed seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label.
I think this product is slightly better than Sainsbury's own branded product and costs only a little more. Just to see the difference one kg of Sainsbury's dishwasher powder costs 2.16 pounds while Finish PowerPowder costs 2.39 pounds.
I think I will buy this brand when it will be on offer. It lasts quite long in my dishwasher as I have to use about a tablespoon quantity in it to a washing. It is effective and leaves my dishwasher clean and fresh. I would rate it 5/5.
Probably the best kitchen utility invention in the modern age has to be my fantastic dishwasher. The hours upon hours of time saved not slaving at a kitchen sink, sponge in one hand and brush in the other is not the most glamorous side of life, and what helps my dishwasher complete its outstanding task? Finish Power Powder detergent.
I use to be a big fan of using Dishwasher tablets finding them much easier to place straight into the detergent compartment with no fuss and no mess, but after being hard hit by the Credit Crunch times behind and ahead of us, I looked desperatly for an alternative to VERY expensive tablets and this was it. The Powder pours straight out of a flip nozzle on the top of the bottle directly into the compartment with no fuss. It is a little messier than using tablets but nothing to write home about. The bottle is a standard 1Kg quantity and the standard serving is generally 40 to 45 grams of powder to complete a wash meaning you get around 25 dish washes per bottle for the bargin price of just £3.44. Comparing this to Finishes own Dishwasher tablets and you get 20 Tablets for £6.61.
The Finish Power Powder also has a lemon fragrance to it, which is very mild and subtle so your dishes are not left with an overpowering lemon taste to everything you eat, but they smell fresh and clean. This product is also the number 1 recommended product by many of the leading manufactures of dishwashers, there are too many to name them all, but it includes Electrolux, Bosch, Smeg, Hotpoint, Siemens, etc. so you know you've bought a reliable and quality product.
Overall, this is a tried and tested product made by one of the leading brands on the market today. I highly recommend this product and would buy it over the tablets due purely to the cost saving reasons. I give this product a highly deserved Dooyoo rating of 5 stars out of 5.
I've been using Finish products since I first got a dishwasher, over 15 years ago. Back then, there was little choice of dishwasher products on the market and we could only find this powder. Although these days I now use tablets, I thought I should tell you my opinion of this powder.
First of all, I have to say that this dishwasher powder works just fine. It always seemed to have gotten my dishes clean, with good results even with dishes that had caked on food. Of course, part of this has to do with how the dishwasher performs, but when I tried a local brand to try to save money, I found that things didn't come out as clean. Once I'd switched back, I was again happy with the results Finish powder gave me. But this powder doesn't have any extra stuff in it so you'll still have to put salt and drying agent in your machine to get the best results.
From the picture you can see that this comes in two scents - original and lemon. Since the original scent was only okay smelling, when the lemon one came out I switched to that. However, I can't say that your dishes will come out smelling lemony, since that just isn't the case. Yes, there's a tinge of lemon when you open the dishwasher right after the cycle, but that's about it. I do have to say that the lemon scent was a bit more obvious while the machine was running with my old machine. But with my new dishwasher, you can't smell any of the products you use, so adding a lemon scent is mostly going to bring fragrance to the cabinet you put it in, and not your dishes.
I liked the size this came in, which meant I didn't have to buy it as often and it worked out to be very economical. The packaging isn't bad either, with a solid plastic jug and side-handle that makes this easy to carry and the top has a flip-down spout. That spout is supposed to make it easier to pour this into the receptacle on your dishwasher. Unfortunately, that spout doesn't work all that well when the jug is really full, and you'll probably find that until you've used some up, it will spill out too fast. Also, when you get to the bottom of the jug, you might find yourself tipping it too much and again, the product might come out too quickly. So this good idea isn't perfectly engineered. Also, if you're short on storage space, you might not find it easy to put this large jug away.
The most convenient thing about powders is that you can regulate the amount you put into your machine, so if your dishwasher has a half-load option, you won't be wasting a whole tablet for that cycle and can put in half the amount of product. That means you might find this less expensive than the tablets and other new fangled cleaners, and yet it will still clean your dishes perfectly well.
To sum up, this is a good, basic dishwashing powder. The pros are that it's economical and will clean your dishes just fine. On the cons side, the scent doesn't seem to do much for your dishes, and the packaging has its drawbacks with its size and spillage problems. I'll give this product three stars and recommend it.
