A dishwasher is something that I'd never be without - ever again. Even my husband agrees, years ago before we had a dishwasher I cooked the dinner, and he did the washing up. He always used to say, and still does, that I have the ability to use virtually every single pot, pan, and piece of cutlery just to make beans on toast. I think that I probably agree with him, as we have a full size dishwasher, there's only the two of us, and the dishwasher is on every single night. In fact some days it's on two or even three times if I've been baking that day.
Although having a dishwasher makes life easier i.e. no washing the pots, a dishwasher does require all sorts of products to go along with it; tablets powder or liquid, rinse aid, special salt, fresheners, cleaners, and protectors. Granted you don't need all of these products to run a dishwasher, but you do obviously need some sort of tablets, powder or liquid to actually clean your dishes - the dishwashers version of washing up liquid I guess!
I always buy Finish Dishwasher Tablets, I've tried cheaper brands in the past, but they just don't give the same results that the Finish tabs do. Finish Dishwasher tablets are available in 3 different varieties; Finish Classic - the most basic and the cheapest of the 3 (these are the ones that I buy), Finish All-In-One - middle of the road in both performance and price, and Finish Quantum - the all singing all dancing tabs and the most expensive of the 3.
Dishwasher products aren't exactly cheap, which is why I have tried cheaper versions of dishwasher tablets. However I always come back to Finish tabs for the superior results that they give. One of the major supermarkets will normally have the Finish products on offer though, so you can normally pick them up for less than full price.
The Finish Classic dishwasher tablets claim to have 2 'power actions'; a powerful clean, and tea stain removal. No-one drinks black tea in our house so I can't comment on whether they remove tea stains, but they do remove every other stain you could think of. I can even have the dishwasher on a gentle 35 degree wash and everything will come up nice and clean. I've found that when I've tried cheaper dishwasher tablets that they can sometimes strip away any logos on glasses or plates, this isn't the case with the Finish tabs.
Unlike the two more expensive Finish tabs which claim to have the salt function and the rinse aid function built in, the Classic tabs don't, and Finish do recommend that you supplement the Classic tabs with both the Finish Rinse Aid and the Finish Special Salt. I do this and to be honest I've found that I also need to supplement the more expensive Finish tabs with both the rinse aid and the special salt too. So that's why I buy the cheapest Classic tabs. I will buy one of the more expensive Finish tabs if they work out to be cheaper than the Classic tabs if they're on offer though. More often than not it's the Classic tabs that are the cheapest, so these are what I use probably 90% of the time.
I'd definitely recommend Finish Classic dishwasher tablets, but I would advise shopping around to get them that little bit cheaper. I have a Siemens dishwasher, and Siemens do recommend Finish products. I suspect that you can use Finish dishwasher tablets in any brand of dishwasher though.
