I'm a Miele domestic appliance service engineer and all I can say is that the three in one tablets that contain salt/rinse aid/cleaning powder all-in-one will dramatically shorten the life of your machine,to the effect that Miele now put a disclaimer in with the literature on any new machine installation to this effect.They also warn that any damage caused to your machine will not be covered by any warranty.Miele dont say any brand in particular,just all of them!
A bit of technical info:I honestly dont know why other manufacturers arent mentioning this fact,indeed Hotpoint i think are even reccomending a new one on the market called Grist i believe.
The problem with the three in one is mainly with the salt function;without the salt in the proper reservoir in the machine then the water softening crystals will literally 'bake',and the salt funcion of the machine will cease to work.The salt in the tablets cant know how each machine works as they are all different.The rinse aid wont make a lot of difference to the machine really,but as the salt funcion is the most important part of the machine its the one that you should really try to look after.
This problem would show itself up quicker in a hard water area due to the fact that the salt function is under more duress,as it were,in these areas.
