Advantages: Works better than any other rinse aid I've tried
Disadvantages: Spills a bit, lemon scent disappears quickly
As an owner of a dishwasher for over 15 years, I've used a whole gamut of products in my machines. Often one finds that one product is much the same as the others. Then again, once in a while, you find out that there's one manufacturer who can make a superior product to all the others. This is what I found when I started using Finish's rinse aid.
To tell you the truth, there's really very little one can really say about a dishwasher rinse aid. It's simply a liquid that you put into your dishwasher to help prevent water spots from forming on your dishes, and especially your glassware. The big question is, does this stop water spots from forming on your dishes and glassware. In a word, yes, it does - beautifully, in fact. The thing is, I've tried other rinse aid products and each and every time I've returned to using the Finish. There was one company that made a rinse aid that actually left more spots on my dishes than had I run the machine without it.
I've also found that I prefer using the Finish liquid rinse aid to doing without and using the combination power balls. This is because my new machine can be properly adjusted for just the right rinse aid for the water in my area, and will only take the amount of rinse aid it needs. If you use the combination tablets, you get the amount that the manufacturer gives you in the tablet, which might not be the correct amount for your location.
I've used both the regular one as well as the lemon scented one, and they both work exactly the same. I can't say, however, that the lemon scented one really makes any difference to the way my dishes smell, but I do detect a slightly lemony smell in my kitchen when I open the dishwasher right after the machine has completed it's cycle - but this dissipates almost immediately, so I don't see much of an advantage to using that version over the original one.
The only drawback of this product is that the liquid does come out a bit fast from the bottle and in all the years I've used Finish's rinse aid, I've never been able to add it to my machine without spilling some of it. Still, this isn't enough to rate this product down, since all the other liquid rinse aids I've used have the exact same problem.
All in all, this is an excellent product. It will get your dishes looking brand new and spot free and even if it is slightly more expensive than some of the other brands out there, it works so much better that it isn't worth your money to buy anything less than the best. That's why I'll recommend it highly and give it a full five stars.

Technical Stuff:
The UK web page for Finish products can be found at http://www.finish.co.uk/ and this product can be found at http://tinyurl.com/5agbn3
The best price I found for this was on-line at http://www.bellbrush.com/finish-rinse-litre-p-177. html where they sell 1 liter bottles for only £4.95 (but this site might be just for industries). Another site, British Food Direct (www.britishfooddirect.com) sells the 500ml bottle for £3.60.
Off line, the 500ml bottle costs £2.98 at Tesco, £3.27 at Sainsbury's, £2.46 at Morrisons and £2.98 at ASDA.

- 29/05/08 Thanks. I've added a "Technical Stuff" section to this review for that (previously) missing information. |

- 28/05/08 Great review and well done on reviewing something which not much can be said about! I agree about the scent. I find it vanishes far too quickly, even with scented same-as dishwasher tablets. UK price would be good to add here though. |
