Advantages: Simple and easy, withouth being harsh.
Disadvantages: None for me.
I make no secret of the fact that I am lazy in the housework department. As a result, I will happily try anything that makes the darned chores easier or quicker.
I was introduced to Flash wipes a few years ago - back in the days when I could afford a cleaner, and she insisted on these being available for her to use when cleaning the loos.....I don't buy them all the time, but I do confess to having them about most of the time, as they really do make the grotty jobs a little easier to handle.....
The pack that I have are the Flash strongweave wipes. These are antibacterial and claim to kill 99.99% of bacteria......let's just hope that the 0.01% doesn't choose to mutate then......
The pack says that there are 60 wipes, but in reality there are 30 wipes that you can, if you choose, or if you remember to, tear in half down the perforated bit in the middle. More often than not, I forget, but if you do remember, then these work out pretty reasonable costwise. They are about £1.50 in my local supermarket but are sometimes available on offer.
So, the pack itself has a re-sealable "patch" on the top of the pack, through which you pull the next available wipe, rather like a pack of wet wipes. Be careful to reseal the pack though, because if you don't, then the wipes do dry out quite quickly and become more or less useless.
The wipes are a good size, especially if you forget to tear them in half, and are moist but not horribly so. They smell slightly citrus-y but not bleachy so they are not unpleasant to use.
They are suitable for any hard surface - just wipe and leave....no need to rinse. The pack advises that you leave the surface for 5 minutes for the antibacterial "stuff" to do its thing.
I have to admit that I don't use these for worktops - which get a standard j-cloth and kitchen spray quite adequately, but I do use them for doing the loos.......it is just so so easy to clean round those lovely areas with one of these wipes, and then just to dispose of it in the bin. (Don't flush them down the loo, as you could cause a blockage.)
I know that it could be argued that it is just as easy, and much cheaper, to use a cloth and a "normal" bathroom spray cleaner, and to then put the cloth in the machine for a wash, but it is just so easy and simple to "wipe and go" and that is what appeals to me. It also means that if I ask one of the kids to take one of these wipes to clean their loo, I am less likely to see the same wipe left on a worktop in the kitchen - they simply clean the loo and chuck the used wipe in the bathroom bin......far less risk!
It is advised that you wash your hands after using these wipes, but as I have been cleaning the loo, I will be washing them anyway, thank you very much! I have to say, however, that I have never experienced any ill effects on my skin from using these, so I do not think they are overly harsh. My daughter has sensitive skin, and suffers from eczema and these wipes do not cause her any problems either (so no excuse for her not to help with the cleaning then!).
The pack reminds you not to use these for personal hygiene.....which might seem obvious, but I suppose if they were in your bathroom, next to your pack of wet wipes, and it was dark.........well, anyway.....!
They are also not suitable for carpets, upholstery or fabrics.
So....to sum up - these are great as the "easy option" for lazy housewives like me.....but would seem to be a bit of an extravegance if you were to use them for every worksurface!
Summary: A great way to make yukky jobs that bit easier.

- 04/02/09 Good review, am a bit sceptical of the chemicals used and amount of rubbish generated.. With landfills and incinerators threatening to pollute the air further, I prefer to stick with more traditional means and just use a cloth and some vinegar, cleans just as well!! (in fact an online friend tried to clean her loo & all other means but vinegar failed!!:)) |
