Flash Spray with Bleach
Advantages: Currently on promotion, effective cleaner, doesn't leave streaks
Disadvantages: Overpowering smell of bleach, need to test surfaces first if unsure
I, like everybody else on this site it would seem, have recently taken advantage of the Flash with bleach spray which has been on offer in lots of places. I picked mine up from Home Bargains for £1 for a 500ml spray, which was around the same price as their own brand so it made sense to opt for the branded product in this instance. My mum swears by this stuff, and although I usually prefer citrus smells when cleaning, I was willing to give this a try for the price.
The spray comes in the usual format for this kind of product, with a trigger release spray and safety nozzle on top. The spray is dispersed at speed by pressing the trigger, and the smell of bleach is apparent immediately. I must admit, it's not a particularly pleasant smell, but instead reminds me of a school or doctors surgery where everything has been disinfected. The packaging claims it has a eucalyptus scent to it, but I don't detect this at all.
However, the product makes it clear it contains bleach, so I got over the smell fairly quickly. The cleaning power of this product is excellent, and I find there is much less need to scrub and use elbow grease than when using non-branded products. Shame really, as it's the only exercise I get! I tend to use this primarily in the bathroom and kitchen, as these are the rooms I am most concerned about harbouring nasty germs.
The fact that this spray contains bleach makes me hesitant to use it on surfaces in my usual carefree haphazard manner. I have several items of clothing which have been drained of colour (or turned slightly pink!) after making contact with bleach, so I always ensure I am in my cleaning gear (old jogging pants, not an actual cleaning outfit) when using this to avoid any damage to my clothes. I also test an inconspicuous area of some surfaces if I am unsure. This is something they usually recommend on the packaging, but I usually ignore it to be honest. With this product, it is probably wise, just in case you end up taking a layer off one of your worktops.
In terms of cleaning power, as I mentioned earlier this spray does cut through dirt and grease without any issues, and if you leave it for a minute or two it just lifts straight off taking any dirt with it. It doesn't leave streaks, but does leave the room with a noticeable smell of bleach which I found a little overpowering to be honest. It smells like we've had the house fumigated.
Overall, I would recommend this cleaner for making cleaning a little easier, but personally I think I'll just use this for emergencies from now on, and get a citrus fragranced cleaner for day to day use. The bleach element also makes it difficult to know which surfaces to use this on, so for these reasons I am giving this product four stars.
