... way to describe it but the fibres are quite short. Unfortunately though, it is a pale colour, which means that stains show up quite clearly, and it has indents, which means that it is quite difficult to clean spills up properly. In the bedrooms, I have a lovely soft, thick, cream coloured carpet. This looks and feels lovely, but as I have long hair, which ruins the look, it has to be hoovered a lot, and there are some make up spills which have left it slightly stained, but it does still look nice. On my stairs, the...more

Premium Review Flooring in general: What goes up... (461 words)

This is a bit random, but here's my list of my views on different kinds of floors in the home! 1. Carpet I grew up with this in most rooms of the houses we lived in. It's more comfortable than most other types of floors which is definitely important to children. However, it isn't as easy to clean stains from and can easily look quite dated. Of course carpet with patterns is a definite no no! The trend these days is for paler coloured carpets which are obviously a lot harder to keep clean. The main problem is things like mud and spills, often quickly wipeable with other types of flooring, tend to hang around much longer. Cheap carpet with bare feet is also ...  Read the complete review

Well flooring where shall i start we have had that many over the years with one thing or another ruining them. (1) STICKY BACKED FLOOR TILES I thought these would be a great idea for our kitchen when we got the new house as they were not too expensive at £5 a pack for 12 of them, they are very easy to lay as all you need to do is peel the paper backing off and stick them to a clean dry floor, the edges are easy to do as you can cut these with a pair of sizzors, Not long after these first went down i noticed some little marks near to the cooker but never thought anything of it, the marks kept appearing and were not going away when i mopped the floor, on ...  Read the complete review

With my Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen hat on I shall now embark upon a voyage of discovery through the world of flooring. I shall then share a couple of flooring experiences with you, not so much in a ‘how to do it’ sort of way but more of a ‘for god’s sake don’t make the same mistake as me’ manner. OPTIONS Carpet: this is the most popular floor covering and is soft under foot and can be colour coordinated to match your furniture or other decorations. However, this is one of the most expensive floor coverings. Beware making economies such as buying cheap carpet, which will wear quickly and look tatty or skipping on the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lots of choice nowadays! (515 words)

Okay, so here's the list of flooring that I've had experience with: Carpets This is what I've grown up with in my house since childhood. I have it in the bedrooms, the hall, and the living room. Carpets are good for having a warm feel in the house but are not so good for those with asthma as the dust can gather in the fibres, causing irritation. Carpets also have to be hoovered quite often, and can look dated if you pick something that's too trendy only at one time point. It's also important to find a balance between one that is hardwearing enough to last, doesn't cost too much, and feels nice when you walk barefoot. In the living room, I have ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Flooring in general: on the carpet (207 words)

Faced with the awesome job of fitting a carpet in a bedroom occupied by 3 young boys and all their accompanying bits and pieces, I was not looking forward to it. All the carpet shops wanted the room almost completely cleared to take on the job so this was out of the question. After careful consideration we decided on carpet tiles as we could do a few at a time.We put down hardboard to give a better surface then layed the tiles with double sided tape, moving things as we needed to (in fact this was easier when the hardboard was down as the beds slid easily on the smooth surface). Eventually the whole room was done and everything put back in place and it looks just as good ...  Read the complete review
