Advantages: lots of new floors

Disadvantages: never lasting

Well flooring where shall i start we have had that many over the years with one thing or another ruining them.

(1) STICKY BACKED FLOOR TILES
I thought these would be a great idea for our kitchen when we got the new house as they were not too expensive at £5 a pack for 12 of them, they are very easy to lay as all you need to do is peel the paper backing off and stick them to a clean dry floor, the edges are easy to do as you can cut these with a pair of sizzors, Not long after these first went down i noticed some little marks near to the cooker but never thought anything of it, the marks kept appearing and were not going away when i mopped the floor, on closer inspection i realised that these were not marks at all but were where the fat from the frying pan had spat onto the tiles and began to melt them, i wasnt impressed with this. Having always had dogs we used to have to mop them daily aswell which after around 12 months lifted the corners of the tiles and they looked a right mess so we got rid of them.

(2) LAMINATE FLOORING
The latest craze was everyone having laminated flooring all through there homes so we decided it would be easier to keep clean than carpets and had the whole of the down stairs of our house fitted with it, this was another flooring mistake, hubby dropped a kitchen knife wholst washing up and took a great big chip out of the kitchen floor, with all the mopping it had to endure the edges of the pieces where they joined together started to peel apart as the laminate came off and looked horrible, stilletto heels chipped the hall flooring and the livingroom just didnt feel homely without nice thick warm carpet under your feet so this had to go.

(3) CARPET AND LINO
We recarpeted the livingroom and the hall way and invested in a carpet cleaning machine to keep them looking clean, this works wanderfully and i am happy with these rooms but the kitchen was a different matter, we had lino or vinyl flooring as some call it fitted in there which was very hard wearing, didnt melt from the fat and the animals didnt scratch or chip it, it was easy to mop and i thought this was my problem sorted untill my washer sprung a leek, i fetched the washer out and mopped all of the water up but a few days later i began to notice a smell that progressively got worse, it was where the water had gone under the flooring and began to go moldy, this had to go.

(4)REAL WOOD FLOORING
I decided on this for my kitchen, had it fitted professionally and sealed, it was all going very well untill my sink sprung a leek, i came home to find everything wet, i dryed the livingroom and hall carpets with the carpet cleaner and mopped the excess off this floor but over a period of a few days the boards began to warp, they warped so much that the doors into the dining room and the hall no longer closed, this was another floor ruined but luckily my insurance would cover this one.

(5) CERAMIC TILES
My 5th floor the one that is down now but no means my final floor was ceramic tiles after all what could go wrong, they wouldnt go moldy, wouldnt warp and wouldnt chip, wholst washing up i dropped a coffee cup, the cup broke and so did the tile near the sink, since then thre have been numerace drops in the kitchen and have resulted in 6 tiles now being broken.

Where do i start with a new floor this time, any sugestions please?

Summary: what now?
