Advantages: Specifically designed for cleaning your GF Grill, do the job very well indeed
Disadvantages: Cost a lot of money
We have had a George Foreman Grill for a few years now, and while I really love the simplicity of using it, it does come at a cost: unless you clean it straight away, it can be an absolute nightmare to clean. Once that grease or fat or anything cools down and sticks on there, the grill shaped nature of it means that getting into the groove isn't quite as easy as Madonna found it!! (sorry, sorry...)
Enter these funky grill pads. The cleaning sponges are just like regular sponges that would buy: one side has a scouring pad, while the other has a softer sponge, for the parts you don't want to scratch the protective covering off of. What sets these sponges as different to other is that they are geared towards a George Foreman Grill: they have the grooves in them as well. To get a better idea of what they look like, there's a decent photo in the product picture on this page.
In a practical sense, this does make it rather easier. To a certain extent, you would be forgiven for thinking that this is a lazy way of excusing those who don't clean it straight away, and makes it easier to wait for a bit before cleaning. However, it also makes it easier to clean the grill straight away, and in a way it does encourage you to do it straight away, by making it that much more simple.
Ultimately, it hits the niche in terms of its shape, and it is a product that does what it intends to do. Pricewise, they will set you back a bit, costing over £1 per sponge! To this extent, I probably won't be buying these on a regular basis, if ever again, as even though they are good for what they do, it is still an expensive way of cleaning something that you could still do with another product, much cheaper, but having to use a bit more elbow grease.
Ultimately, it's a good product, but it comes down to whether you want to fork out for them or not. They do the job, but are very expensive. You can buy cheaper sponge cleaners with scouring pad sides, but I find them not as effective as these. You can certainly get the grill cleaner with less effort with these, but will your bank balance and shopping budget cater for what is essentially a bit of a luxury?
Summary: Sponge pads designed specifically for GF grills

- 28/06/09 Sounds like a marketing venture rather than something really needed. Like most owners I just wipe and clean with a sponge the moment the grill is switched off. The fact that its still hot means a damp cloth just takes everything off. |

- 28/06/09 Oh, so they're not actually sponges to clean George Foreman himself? ;) |
