Advantages: Long lasting candle with a strong pleasant scent
Disadvantages: Can be a bit overpowering if you leave it lit for too long
I wanted to buy a scented candle that actually had a pleasant and fairly strong smell. Some candles are either weak smelling or just not very nice and end up giving me an headache.
I was in Wilkinsons and I noticed Glade had a range of scented candles, I think there were two options in my store although I believe there is a much wider seclection. I proceeded to have a quick smell. Very dignified having your nose stuck in a candle. I decided on Enchanting Night as the candle would mainly be on when I got home from work in the evening. The scent from the candle was quite strong which surprised me and I would describe as quite a distinct scent. I thought if the smell is quite strong before I had even lit it then I should be onto a winner with this candle.
The packaging was fairly simple, with a piece of card that covered at least 3/4 of the candle. One side was on show which is where I managed to smell the candle. The candle is in what I would describe as a small glass bowl with a stars/space effect design The bowl has the colours purple, blue and bits of gold which look like stars, the candle itself is yellow. It does state that each candle will burn for 30 hours.
This Glade candle contains Octabenzone , 2-(4-Tert-Butylbenzyl) Propionaldehyde , Coumarin. This apparantley can cause allergic reactions so if you have sensitive skin you should be extra careful.
Just to note that it does say it is harmful to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. The usual instructions apply such as trimming the wick to 5mm before use. Also to keep the candle free from objects such as matches. You need to keep the candle away from heat such as fires and TV's.
When I first lit this candle I was delighted to discover that it does have quite a strong and very pleasing scent. It instantly reminded me more of perfume than an actual scented candle but it isn't too strong a smell that it would hurt to breathe and cause a coughing fit. I can't really describe the scent because I haven't smelled anything quite like it. The online description states that this candle is a warm blend of oriental and floral tones.
On the whole I do prefer something like a Vanilla or Jasmine scent but again some of these candles are too weak and you don't really notice that they are lit. One thing to note is that this candle doesn't need to be lit for too long due to the strong scent it can soon overpower a room.
If you want a scent that will fill your room and possibly even spread to others then this is definitely the product for you. At around £3 it is fairly reasonable and it does last for quite a while.
I have noticed that Asda and Sainsbury's have this candle and a few others from the range in their stores.
Summary: For a long lasting candle try Glade Enchanting Night
