Glade Honey and Chocolate Candle
Advantages: Fairly long lasting, pleasant scent, pretty jar, often on offer
Disadvantages: Pricey at full-price, scent not as powerful or honey chocolately as I would have liked
I haven't been using candles or incense as much in recent years but I've taken a liking to a few the last couple of months, one being the Glade Honey & Choc candle. It may not quite meet expectations as far as the fragrance and powerfulness of it is concerned, but it's still a candle that I find comforting with a pleasant scent.
Glade is produced by SC Johnson, and so it gets a good reputation as being of high quality and popular. The Glade range is now pretty big, including scented oils, plug ins, aerosols and the candles. I bought the first one of these particular candles because I was tempted by an offer, and to be honest, I think I'd only buy them when on offer. They do offer something extra than your average candle, both in terms of fragrance and appearance, but at the end of the day, I know a lot of the price tag is for the brand.
This comes boxed with a side cut-out so you can see the candle inside. The box depicts a cosy looking fire and some honey on a stick, though unfortunately no chocolate (perhaps in case someone sues for thinking it's edible!). The candle itself is within a rounded glass jar with a yellow design; the shade gets darker near the top of the candle and has a white swirly design on it, giving it a half-frosted appearance. I'm not really concerned about 'matching my décor' with my candle, but it does go well anyway and I think it's fairly pretty to look at; fairly understated but noticeable nonetheless and a good size to provide a soft glow to a small room.
The candle itself is supposed to last for up to 30 hours, the 'up to' part being key. I can't really say how long it lasts because I've never timed it, though I do think that this candle lasts me a fair amount of time. Which it should really, considering the cost. It's easy enough to light with the wick, just be careful when it burns down close to the bottom when trying to tip the container to light it.
The sound of honey and chocolate really appealed to me as something that would smell delicious and provide a room with feelings of warmth and comfort. To be honest, I never expect too much from candles, as they're often not as fragranced, or don't smell like the description, as you would have hoped.
This particular candle is described as a 'sweet combination of honey with a hint of fine chocolate makes the Glade® Honey & Chocolate candle an essential accessory for a cosy evening'. Does it smell like that? I can't say that it's as strong and recognisable as I would have liked; if someone walked in to the room after it had been lit I don't think they could pick out that it's chocolate and honey. It does, however, have a very pleasant smell that's sweet but not sickly so, and has hints and the aforementioned tones. The fact that it's not as strong as it could be may be a good thing, because it means the candle isn't too overpowering and so you can leave it on a good while without feeling like you're being slowly poisoned!
Overall, this is a pleasant enough candle that I actually really enjoy using. Granted, it could be better, but when on offer it's one I'll be stocking up on to provide a comforting scent and soft warm glow.
Selling around £4 (Tesco)
Summary: A comforting candle but better when on offer
