Advantages: Lovely warming scent
Disadvantages: The scent disappears as soon as the candle goes out
With a family of six in one house, and a dog I like to use products to help keep my home smelling nice and fresh. While shopping in Tesco I came across this chocolate and honey candle for just £1 I thought I would give it a go. You are greeted with a medium size glass bowl which has the candle inside. The glass is fairly pretty, nothing amazing but still very pleasing on the eye. It looks very pretty sitting on my mantelpiece in a warm orange colour.
The wick of the candle is a fair size, and sits directly in the middle of the candle so it does burn down evenly. Even without lighting the candle I can smell the scent inside the glass. It sits well in the candle, and the wick is long so even on repeat uses it is very easy to light it, without having to pick it from the wax. I find that although it takes a little while to light the wick once it is done it stays burning without any problems. The candle is fairly deep but not so much so that I am struggling to get inside to light it.
As soon as you light the candle it begins to burn down releasing the lovely scent hidden inside it. The chocolate scent is lovely very warm and inviting I love it in the winter months best. There is a hint of honey to this candle but personally I would say it is definitely the chocolate that dominates. It is definitely an artificial smell, very sweet yet welcoming. I love sweet scents so this is perfect for me, but I do think it could be a little sickly for some as my husband is not too keen on it. The smell is very noticeable while the candle is burning, and it does tend to take over the room covering any aroma's that may be in the air. Even if I have the candle burning with the living room door open I find it fills the house just nicely. It claims to last up to 30 hours, which I do think is correct. I did not count up how long I used it for, but I was able to relight every evening for a few hours without it burning down too quickly.
Once the candle is put out I do find that the smell lingers for a small period after, but then quickly fades. That is my main problem with this candle, it does fill the house with a lovely sweet scent, but there is no longevity at all. I find it disappears almost instantly after the candle has finished burning. This is a big problem for me as I do not like to have candles burning while my children are around as they are so young. I find I can't even burn it before I do the school run to freshen the house up a little as when I return there is just no trace of it anywhere.
I do really like this candle as it smells lovely and sweet, and while the candle is burning it is very noticeable. The problem is it has no longevity at all, so as soon as you put the candle out you are in effect removing the scent too. I do not mind burning it in the evening when I can sit and enjoy it, but for day to day use it is not fantastic. I prefer to use this candle in the evening on a cold winter night, as it is very warming, and my living room door can be shut to produce maximum effect.
This is not a fancy product; it is cheap, simple and just a basic candle. It does live up to its claims of burning for 30 hours, and the scent is very pleasant if you do not mind overly sweet scents. I purchased mine on sale for £1 but usual retail is somewhere around £3 which I think is fairly reasonable. It can be used a number of times for long periods which is perfect as the scent is only really recognisable while it is burning. It is a very pleasant scent; I just hoped that the longevity could have been a little better.
Summary: An ok candle, but nothing special
