I love candles and have tons of holders scattered around my house so I can create the perfect romantic or haunting lighting effects. I particularly like fragranced candles as they create a lovely atmosphere, especially during the evenings when you want to feel all cosy. I saw discovered Glade's scented candle range last Christmas and have been addicted to them ever since. I came across this Glade Scented Oil Candle in Poundland, where of course it cost just £1.00. Knowing how much I enjoy Glade's scented candle range I couldn't resist trying this one, especially at such a great price.
Product description: "A contemporary mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm, relaxing moments."
The item comes packaged in a plastic blister pack with a cardboard backing, and the candle is displayed so that you can see the tin and the little candle so you know what the entire product looks like before you buy. In the pack you get one candle and one reusable holder. The candle is quite small, more of a tea light size and it comes with its own tin which has a removable lid. The tin I chose had a pale background colour with a bold blue flower pattern all over (it's actually the same as the candle on the left in the picture here). The candle itself is made of a pale lime green coloured wax.
This Scented Oil Candle came in Glade's "Relaxing Zen" fragrance which is one that I've come across before in their scented candle range and I absolutely LOVE it. I would say that the scent is mainly floral, but has a fresh clean edge to it that is perfect for creating a light mood. The best comparison I could make is that it smells sort of like bamboo! This is something that I could see appealing to most people, as it is a wonderful fragrance that is neither too masculine nor too feminine. It is very unique and one of my favourite candle scents.
The candle holder tin comes in two halves and on the bottom section there is a raised area in the middle on which you place the candle. The candle is only very small and claims to give up to three hours burning time. This seemed completely spot on, as when I used mine it lasted for almost exactly three hours. The candle melted down very quickly and changed from a solid wax form into a melted pool of oily wax. By doing so this gave off a very concentrated scent. Unfortunately although the scent was lovely and strong, it did not seem to diffuse around the room at all, and instead was very concentrated only in the area where I had placed it. This meant that unless I was sat right next to the candle I didn't really experience any of the benefits of having it on. I much prefer a candle that can release a strong scent that spreads around the room so that it creates more of an atmosphere and gives an uplifting or comforting fragrance to the whole area. After the three hours my candle had all but completely disappeared, and there was only a tiny amount of residue left in the bottom of the tin.
After the candle has completely burned out you are left with a pretty holder which can then be re-used. I am tempted to keep it and use again but I have come across the problem that I cannot seem to find anywhere to buy the replacement candles from. I have seen the candles packaged with holders, but there is no need for me to buy another pack with another holder when I would only need the candles. In the long run I don't think that the effect of the candle was good enough to encourage me to keep buying these as a regular thing, but if I could find the candles separately then I may make the occasional purchase from time to time.
Overall I would say that this is a nice idea but the Scented Oil Candle just didn't perform as well as Glade's ordinary scented candle range. Worth a go if you can pick it up for a £1 like I did, and if anyone knows where they sell the extra candles please let me know!
Sometimes in my home, I feel it is nice to have a candle burning just to create a nice smell. I don't always have time to burn candles but on my days off I usually keep one burning but I go through candles quite quickly. I came across these Glade Scented Candle Tins and thought they looked really different and so opted for the Zen scent. Glade are usually a good company for air fresheners and so on so I hoped it would be quite a nice scent that would stay for a few hours rather than disappearing as soon as the candle goes out.
When buying these candles they come in a cardboard and plastic packet. The packaging has the Glade logo and then they come in a white tin with blue flowers all over it which is very pretty and maybe nice to keep but I am talking about the Zen one as different scents have different tins. The actual candle itself is yellow which is nothing like the tin but it still looks good and is in an oval shape with the wick as standard. The candle tin has a silver holder inside where you are meant to place the candle onto.
There are a few safety rules for using this candle. Keep out of reach children, failure to follow instructions could result in fire hazard or personal injury. Always keep free of matches and foreign objects and do not move while lit. Never leave lit candle unattended or burn a candle near anything flammable. Place candle on a heat resistant surface and away from drafts. For use indoors only. Those suffering from perfume sensitivity should be careful when using.
Now, being a scent called Zen I'm sure you are all wondering what it is made up of. Well, it is described as being a mix of white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm, relaxing moments. Personally, I think it is an obvious fresh, floral smell. It wasn't too overpowering and was very pleasant. The smell stayed for about half an hour from blowing out the candle which I thought was not bad considering other candles I've used in the past.
To use the candle, you just need to place it into the holder and make sure it is a heat resistant surface. Then light the candle and it is as easy as that, then you can remove the silver circle left if the candle has fully burned and all remaining wax. I found the candle very easy to light and had no problems, as there is nothing worse than a wick that will not light after using five matches. After using this it is easy enough to clean the holder, I just use soap and water and it is fully clean to me.
I think this is a really good candle and I'd say it had a burning time of about two and a half to three hours. The smell eliminates any bad odours and is quite a fruity scent and seems bold enough. The wax didn't make a mess as it melts into the tin making cleaning up a lot easier. I didn't burn it all at once but when it comes to relighting the candle, the wick still easy to light and the flame burned brightly again and didn't once go out proving it is high quality.
I think these candles are really different and I would definitely recommend them. The smell is really relaxing and makes a warm welcoming atmosphere into my home. The candle is good as you can get the refills and they last a good while and the smell stays around which is what I like. Glade have lived up to my expectations and I really like the idea of these tins, they come in a range of other scents so head down to Poundland and have a look at the range.
I actually found a bargain with this candle as I got it for £1 at Poundland which isn't bad. The actual RRP of this I am not sure of but I know Amazon.co.uk are selling a pack of 5 of these for £19.95

A couple of days ago my wife and I went for a few bits and pieces from tesco and as usual came home with many things we hadn't intended to buy, one of them being a Glade scented oil candle.
We have used many Glade products in the past and almost always been happy with them so when we seen these reduced in price to only £1.99 we thought we were grabbing a bargain product that would do a good job.
Cheaper than normal it might have been but value for money it was not, the fragrance we had chosen was the Tuscan scent and it smelled pretty much of nothing unless you were right next to it and then the scent was not particularly pleasant.
Within half an hour or a few minutes more this had burned out and that was our two pounds gone and what had we got for our money? Well nothing really, the scent wasn't strong enough to travel nor was it very pleasant and for it to be burned out after such a short time was the final straw.
I have not only written this review on here to warn others but also written to Glade themselves to let them know how disappointed I was with the product, I might have got it for £1.99 but others could well have paid the full four pounds for this candle and I can only imagine they must be furious!
Im going to start my review in a fairly unorthodox manner, I'm going to tell you all straight away that I was so disappointed with this candle. I'm still cross that I wasted my money on it a day later. It doesn't help that I'm in a bit of a bad mood today anyway, but still, I expected more from the Glade scented oil candle.
In Tesco yesterday I was on the aisle of special offers and as I like scented candles I picked up the Tuscan fragrance of this candle. It was reduced to £1.99. I had been tempted before by the lovely packaging and the very nice little tin but thought it seemed expensive for what it was. So yesterday I gave in, and bought one. I wish I'd bought myself a magazine or something for the money as I soon felt very cheated indeed.
I always find scented candles are great in the kitchen to mask strong cooking smells and this was where the Glade Scented Oils candle and Tin was going to be. I was making Chips in the Deep Fat Fryer for tea, and that's always very stinky but a candle typically sorts the smell out shortly after cooking. Dinner was made, children were in bed and I lit the candle. Our kitchen/living room is open plan so its nice to have a candle burning in the background.
I did notice that the fragrance did permeate the air after about 15 mins. It wasn't that strong but it was very nice and I was really happy with it. I began to read my book and I looked up, what would have been an hour and a half later and there was no candle burning. There was no candle full stop. With not even two hours burning time my candle was gone. Granted, it did a good job of getting rid of the frying smell, but I seriously thought it would last a lot longer than that. I felt dismayed, I buy scented products quite regularly and none has been wasted so quickly.
I know that £1.99 is not too much money to have wasted, but these retail at almost £4. It is a lot of money when you consider that you could feed your family dinner at £4. I certainly would not be in any hurry to buy another one.
I think I have covered everything I needed to really. This may look nice, but when you get down to using it, it really isn't worth its money at all. I couldn't possibly recommend the product as I was so disappointed in it myself.
~Glade Scented Oils Candle Tin ~
Having been a member of quite a few survey sites for the past two years I have the task of trialing products from time to time - I know, it's a tough job but somebody has to do it!
On this particular occasion I took a survey on freshening up your home. A few days later a package was dropped off with lots of goodies inside. I received two tins each with a candle inside and also two candle refill packs.
~ The Company ~
For more than 50 years, Glade has been bringing quality, lasting, inspiring scents to the homes of families all over the world.
Glade is a brand owned by SC Johnson - A Family Company who own a majority of well known household products including Pledge, Mr Muscle, Oust and Duck to name a few. SC Johnson have been going for five generations and started with Samuel Curtis Johnson - born in 1833 - who invented Johnson's Wax at home in his bathtub which helped a number of households care for their prized parquet floors. By the time he died in 1919 Johnson's had become a household name. Naturally his son took over and the company kept growing to the successful one it is today.
~ The Product ~
Glade Scented Oil Candle Tins are an addition to the previously released glass candle holder. Both of which contain a metal warming plate at the bottom that helps to heat the candle from underneath so you end up with a luscious pool of molten wax. As the candles contain oil the fragrance of each candle is concentrating and fills the room within minutes and lasts for hours after too.
The tins are circular with a patterned lid - I received the blue and pink one. The bottom of the tin can sit on top of the lid whilst in use which makes it tidy. The lid also features a cut out leaf design so you can still smell the scent when the lid is on (without the candle alight). Inside the tin is the warming plate and a magnet that holds the candle in place.
The candles resemble floating candles. They are small with a thin sliver of metal attached to the bottom. A variety of flavours are available. I have tried fresh linen (light blue) Festival in Tuscany (deep red) and Relaxing Zen (lime green) but they are also available in their festive spiced apple and vanilla scents. Once the oil is gone, the candle goes out and leaves behind no mess for you to clear away. You just throw away the metal wick plate and replace with another candle.
Each candle has a burn time of around 3 hours which is not brilliant but the scent lasts well into the day or night and travels from room to room. The candles melt into the oil within about 10 minutes.
The tin will last forever as it is robust and features quite a few designs to choose from so there is sure to be one that matches your decor. They are easily portable so you can have them in your bathroom, bedroom, lounge or kitchen.
~ Price ~
As I did not purchase this product and had to send the tins back once the trial was over I have had to research the price. A refill pack of four candles cost £3.50 and the starter pack which includes the tin and a candle are £3.99 but are currently on offer half price for £1.99 at Tesco.
~ My Opinion ~
Overall these candles are a great addition to the Glade range. They are perfect for a quick freshen up of your home or to create a cosy atmosphere in the evening. So they are not the cheapest candles on the market but would certainly buy every now and then as a treat as they certainly work better than most plug ins and who doesn't like a candle or two?!
