Carpets are probably a bit 'Old School' now, but I am sure some of us still have them. I myself have wooden floors but I do have large rugs to add cosiness. They can get a bit 'musty' every now and then and I also have cats which don't help with their shedding of hair. Summer is a great time for extra moulting and it is nice to have a product to freshen up stale porous items such as rugs and carpets.


A 'Fresh Air' spray masks the smell but I want something that will freshen and last a bit longer. So when Johnson brought out 'Shake 'n' Vac' I thought it was quite innovative in its concept and a brilliant idea. Especially if you have a smoker in the house as tobacco leaves a very stale smell which is extremely hard to get rid of.

The product is housed in a tall, slim, green plastic shaker. It has a flip-up release to the top which reveals two holes for the purpose of shaking the perfumed powder out. The fragrance that I have is Magnolia and Vanilla. Now I don't normally like Vanilla, but mixed with the Magnolia it works well as a fragrance. This product also contains an odour neutraliser, so it works on a few levels. It claims to eliminate lingering smells like pet, tobacco and cooking odours that can get trapped in materials. The container holds 400g and this will last for quite a few applications. Apx: 16-18 square metres.


The Glade Shake 'n' Vac contains real perfume and II have to say that the fragrances are really quite lovely. I am asthmatic and perfumes can make me wheezy, so it is best if you are allergic and susceptible to reaction from perfume to, either, not use it, or leave the room as soon as you have shaken it upon the area. It does die down in strength after leaving for a few minutes, and then you just hoover the excess up. Always remember to keep pets away when you are applying this product until it is vacuumed up. I used to absolutely hate the advert for this product. Totally cringe worthy!

I think Shake 'n' Vac is an excellent idea. It freshens the air in the house nicely and brings a spruced up and clean look to carpets and rugs. Being a pale powder make sure that all excess is always removed. It's a reasonably cheap way of restoring a clean smell to musty fabric and carpet. The container lasts quite a while and the variety of fragrances is pleasant also. -
