When we moved into our rented house, I noticed that the place smelt a bit like a kennel. The people that we rented off had, had the carpets professionally cleaned and to be honest no one else could smell it apart from me. I was blessed with a hightened sense of smell and despite others not even being able to smell anything, I felt like the place just stunk and it made me feel sick. I remember my auntie using Shake and Vac years a go and wondered if it was still around so went on a mission to find some.

At my local Tescos I found a pot that was orange flavoured and another that was magnolia and vanilla flavoured so I thought I'd try them both. I was very pleased to see that they only cost me 92p so if it didn't work then it wasn't much of a loss.

The powder is packaged in a plastic container that is quite thin and smooth to the touch. It has a little flip' lid that is easy to open and close. I found that with both of the flavours the smell was really strong and distinct. I especially liked the orange so tried that one first.

I sprinkled the dust around the rooms and left it for a few minutes as directed on the container. The rooms were filled with the smell of oranges and I must say, it was lovely. I would say that I managed to do my living room, hall and dining room before the powder ran out. I do have quite big rooms in the house though.

Once I had hoovered up the powder the smell of the oranges did remain for a round a day but I could still smell dogs! I continued using the powder on and off and made sure I aired the rooms a lot and after a while it did go. I'm not sure if this was down to the powder or if the smell of dogs would have gone anyway after a while but it made the whole process of hoovering a bit more of a delight and I loved my rooms smelling nice.

I was a little worried that it might cock up my hoover but Im happy to say that I use this stuff quite a lot and my hoover is still living.

I would recommend Shake and Vac if you want your rooms to smell nice but I wouldn't bank on it getting rid of really strong smells.
