Glade Spiced Apple Candle
Advantages: Smells amazing
Disadvantages: annoying flicker, burns unevenly
Winter soon makes it's way round and the smell of summer disappears and everywhere just smells damp and cold. I am a big fan of Christmas and the Winter season so I always look for something to make my house smell warm and cosy. When I first moved into this house, I had been using these glade candles before and found this spiced apple scented candle in their range and decided to give it a go. I like a scent which smells inviting, warm and not too overpowering. I was able to smell the candle before purchasing so when I got home I was very excited to try it for the first time. The smell hasn't changed much over the years and the smell of cinnamon is the warming scent that makes you feel comforted that Christmas is just round the corner.
This type of candle is from the Glade brand. It comes in a ball shaped glass holder which has a decorative decal on the outside in red. This particular candle is Spiced apple scented and the candle colour is red. The scent is detectable after around 3 minutes of burning time. If left burning for an hour or more, the smell really fills the whole house with a soft cinnamon fragrance which reminds me of Christmas. I love to burn this particular scent around November onwards as the smell really makes you feel warm and ready for the winter.
The candles don't burn as well as the same scented candles from Air Wick in the square holder. The glass holder than this Glade spiced apple candle is held in is very thin and I worry about it getting too hot and have to put it on a plate for peace of mind. The benefit of it is, that the smell is amazing. The candle starts to burn giving off a beautiful Christmas smell which will get you excited for that time of year. The main scent is cinnamon and cloves from the "spiced" part of the scent. I can't really smell the apple part but the spices are wonderfully powerful.
I really enjoy burning these candles at Christmas time. I don't think this particular scent is suitable for any other time of the year other than Winter as the smell is definitely a Winter warming fragrance. I think the problem with this candle is mainly that it burns straight down and doesn't catch the sides leaving a well in the middle. I usually have to use a knife to chip some of the wax from the sides to help it last longer. The ball shape is rather useless for the candle and wasting wax is a bit of a pain.
I first purchased these from Home Bargains a few years ago for around £1.50 but have seen then this year in Wilkinsons at the same price. I prefer the Airwick scented candles how but still have a few of these for the kitchen at Christmas as the decorative decal on the glass holder is very festive. You can buy these candles from a few different supermarkets and other shops that sell household products.
For the price of the candle, I don't find it too much of an issue that it wakes a well and burns strangely but i can push it down with a knife so not all is lost. The other negative I find slightly irritating is the flickering of the candle when the candle is about halfway burnt down. The ball shape makes me light flicker all over the place and when in a poorly lit room, it feels like you're in a nightclub with a strobe light.
I give this candle 4/5 for it's warming Christmas fragrance but it would have been 5/5 if the candle burn level and didn't dip in the middle.
