Glade Spiced Apple Candle
Advantages: Good value, Beautiful scent, decorative
Disadvantages: Hard to light
We love candles in our house especially as we have a cat and cat smells can often linger, so the scent from fragranced candles can be a welcome addition to the home. Winter seems to be the best time for burning candles with the nights being longer, darker and colder so a couple of burning candles add to the snuggly comfortable atmosphere. The best part of winter is the build to christmas being snuggled under a blacnket watching xmas DVDs, eating snacks and sitting in the flicker of candle night; I'd add a log fire to the image if I could. All year round there are many different candle themes such as citrus and floral smells for the spring/summer but best of all are the minty glistening snow, cinnamons and spiced apples which really bring about the smell of fresh christmas baking. As my partner loves cinnamon and any scent similar my parents often buy these for us as gifts as well so we have a nice supply of the candles to burn as many times as we please.
The candle was bought from Tesco for £2 during their half price sale which I thought was very reasonable for a scented candle. It comes in a cardboard box covering with an opening enough to smell the candle before buying. Inside the deep red coloured wax is held within a bulb shape jar with a red, gold and white snow flake design. The jar is 6cm high and 5cm across.
The Glade candle range is made by SC Johnson and this information is included on the outer packaging, plus lighting instructions, warnings and ingredients labelling. The spiced apple candle is limited edition and part of the festive range. The candle is supposed to burn for approx 30 hours.
These candles are full of scent even when not in use so I put them in my cupboards and on my mantle piece to spread the frangrance. I also scrape out any excess candle wax from the jar and place this on plates or heat proof containers near radiators as it continue to give off scent for a good few weeks later.
As expected I do not burn the candles unattended or in reach of my cat for fear of an accident and the house being burned down. I also have to watch how long the wick is as when it gets too long the flame gets too high and the candle tends to smoke, by just trimming it this issue can be resolved. Another issue is lighting once the candle has burned down in the jar. To initially light the candle I can tilt it and light with a lighter, however, as it burnt down I found myself burning my thumb or spilling wax from tilting the candle. To light the candle throughout I now have bought a long click lighter which means I can safely light at a distance.
The candle does tend to burn nice and evenly which means there is less wastage at the end of its life and is easy to light throughout its life unlike some cheaper candles. The scent is a nice warm xmas baking sweet smell and is present whether the candel is burning or not. The last candle I used burned for apprx 27 hours which was near enough to the suggested up to 30 hours burning time promise.
I would highly recommend this candle especially when on half price offers as the fragrance can freshen up any room or cupboard and when in use lights up any cosy night.
Summary: A good value scented candle.
