Advantages: kills germs, removes limescale

Disadvantages: the smell

i normally buy domestos or toilet duck for the cleaning the loo but when shopping i noticed a buy one get one free offer on harpic 100% limescale remover so i thought nothing more of it and plonked two bottles in the trolley. also since we have two loos in the house to clean it'll save me having to march up and down the stairs clutching the bottle.

anyway this is 750ml harpic original 100% limescale remover which cost around £1.00. it comes in a blue coloured bottle with a red cap with the usual shaped neck to reach under the rim.

according to the bottle harpic has stain prevention system, keeps the loo clean for up to 150 flushes, kills 99.9% of germs, attack limescale better than bleach and removes stains. it also say how Germs breed in limescale and that bleach whitens limescale but cannot remove it.

the bottle has directions for use on the back of the bottle, namely to squirt under the rim and leave for 30 minutes before flushing.

when i used the product i was quite pleased with its performance. i squirted it under the rim for a thick blue liquid to run down around the bowl. the smell hit me though since it smelt strongly of chemicals with no scent whatsoever unlike say toilet duck which leaves your whole bathroom smelling fresh. so immediatly lowered the loo lid and went off and did something else. i returned about an hour later to find the liquid had completely covered the bowl and reached the bottle of the u-bend. i gave the loo a quick once over with the loo brush and flushed to find a sparklingly clean loo. whether it cleans the loo for 150 flushes i don't know since thats surely a couple of weeks worth, which is far too long for me to leave the loo uncleaned and how would i know if the germs had returned without the use of a mircoscope!!

overall, i would recommend toilet duck due to its better smell but if you have a limescale problem then i would probably edge for this.

Summary: not as good as toilet duck in my opinion but a good cleaner none the less
