When I first moved into my hosue, it was incredibly grotty - particularly the toilet which was full of limescale and calcium deposits . I tried everything to get rid of them , a whole barrage of cleaning products, as well as some less traditional techniques, such as leaving cola to soak it overnight . It reduced it, but I never managed to get rid of it completely, and in fact many of the products I used seemed to whiten the limescale rather than actually removing it .

Then I came across Harpic 100% Limescale Remover - I figured trying out one more think on my less than lovely loo couldn't hurt . Now, the packaging makes some pretty bold claims . It promises to remove 100 % of limescale, kill all germs, clean better than bleach on limescale and to give Maximum bowl coverage

It comes in a blue 750ml bottle with a red cap, which reassuringly is childproof, requiring two patches on the cap to be compressed at the same time as twisting the lid off . Having a rather curious 6 year old daughter, this is incredibly reassuring, especially as there are numerous safety warnings on the back of the bottle . The product can cause severe burns, and contains hydrochoric acid, so naturally you do need to be careful while using it, and should wear rubber gloves if you have them .

Additional safety advice tells you to keep this away from food and food preparation surfaces, to keep away from children, preferably locked away , to avoid getting this on your skin and eyes, and what to do if you should get this on your skin and eyes.

Using this is easy - simply remove the childproof cap, lift the toilet seat, and direct the nozzle under the toilet rim squeezing the liquid all round the bowl. It then recommends for best results you leave it for 30 minutes and flush, or to leave it for an hour then brush and flush if you want it to kill 100% of germs .

I knew my limescale was caked on, so I used half a bottle on the first application, and decided to leave it overnight . I was pleased to see when squirting this into the toilet bowl that it clung to the sides coating the entire bowl . I was also pleased it didn't smell too much - it definately smells a little bleachy but nothing overpowering or particularly unpleasant.

The next morning, I brushed the toilet, then flushed. I was shocked and very happily surprised to see that the limescale that had been the bane of my life for 5 years was gone, and that my toilet bowl was gleaming at me. This was the first product I had used in all that time that had made a very significant distance .

I live in a hardwater area, so I continue to use this once a week to keep my toilet bowl gleaming clean . It certainly defeated the limescale, and at 2 bottles for £2 in Asda (which seems to be a regular offer) was actually very cheap .

Well done Harpic. An excellent product - I really can't recommend it enough!

That's great you finally have found a product that works on limescale! Having had this problem in the past when I lived in London, I know how hard it can be to find something effective.
