Advantages: Cheap, cute, functional
Disadvantages: Feels rough, not as good as the more expensive brands
The High School Musical franchise has exploded during the last few years, and you can buy almost anything with it on: make-up, toys, chocolate, games, etc. So I don't know why I was surprised to see some High School Musical 3 kitchen roll! It seemed an odd thing for them to have produced, seeing as I doubt the target age group of HSM (7 to 13 year olds) often buy kitchen roll. However, I am quite partial to a bit of cheesy pop myself and have enjoyed the HSM films, so I thought I would try out the kitchen roll! Plus, it gives me something else to review!
The kitchen paper only cost me £1 for 2 rolls. I would have thought Disney kitchen paper would be more expensive than run of the mill stuff, but strangely enough it was actually a bit cheaper than the normal Asda brand (£1.36 for 2 rolls) and considerably cheaper than Bounty (a massive £3.27 for 2 rolls).
The kitchen rolls came in a bright, exciting plastic wrapper with the expected pictures of Troy, Gabriella, Chad and Sharpay wearing their graduation robes and looking disturbingly happy and peppy as usual. Inside though, the paper was not quite so interesting: it doesn't have any pictures of the characters on it, but it does have some different coloured stars and the High School Musical logo on it, so it looks nice enough, and certainly more attractive than normal kitchen roll.
The rolls are 2 ply and have an average of 56 sheets per roll, with a sheet size of 240mm x 210mm, and a total area of 5.64 metres squared. The packet says that the kitchen roll has 'Thirst Pockets' which 'absorb spills quickly and efficiently making them ideal for wiping up any mess', and it also states that the paper is 'strong and absorbent' and 'perfect for cleaning indoors and out'.
I found that the paper was indeed quite absorbent, though not in the same league as Bounty. But you can't really expect that seeing as they are so much cheaper. The paper was certainly functional, though when it got very wet it tended to split, much like all cheaper kitchen rolls. Also, the kitchen paper did feel quite tough and scratchy to the touch, which was a bit of a shame.
I would say that these kitchen rolls are fine for a change. They do their job, they are cheap and they add some colour to your kitchen! Plus if you have pre-teen girls, they'll be thrilled!
Summary: One of the oddest HSM franchised products!
