Advantages: An easy way to clean and shine a ceramic hob.

Disadvantages: None

The ceramic and halogen hobs look good but it all depends if you can keep them looking good. Up until now I have always been used to an ordinary gas hob, four burners that need the occasional scrub to bring them back to life. Recently we have changed over and now we have a ceramic hob, at first it took a lot of getting used to, after being used to a visible flame it seemed strange to be cooking on a flat shiny hob.

Initially I cleaned the hob with a soft cloth that had been washed through in hot soapy water and it worked but it soon became clear that I needed to use something else, the hob was showing slight marks and the surface was dulling.
Wilkinson's had Hob Brite in stock at £1.89 for a 300 ml bottle and it seemed to the the most sensible purchase.

After years of hacking away at gas burners with a Brillo Pad this seemed relatively easy.
You need to use this cleaning product on a cold hob, first of all just wipe away any food residue and then you are ready to use the Hob Brite cleaner.
The instructions state that you can use paper towel to apply and polish but I prefer to use paper towel to apply the cream and a soft cloth to polish it off.

The thick Hob Brite cream is not abrasive neither does it have an overpowering odour, so your hob will not be scratched or marked as you clean. When you apply the cream you need to apply minimal pressure to clear any marks, if you have by any chance let a pan boil over and you have some very stubborn areas to clean then it is possible to buy a scraper that is perfectly safe to use on a hob.
Once the Hob brite has been applied to the surface it forms a cloudy film that needs to be polished off.
The whole process is quick and easy, once you have applied the Hob Brite and rubbed it in then you are more or less ready to polish it off. For the first couple of times I used paper towel to polish but I found that it left little fluffy bits behind so that is why I decided to use a soft polishing cloth instead and that works well for me.

Hob Brite works well, once you have buffed the cream away then you end up with a good shiny finish. But the finish only lasts as long as you manage to avoid any spillages, once you spill or boil anything over on top of the hob then the whole process needs to be repeated again.
The cream is simple to use, it takes a couple of minutes from start to finish to clean and polish the hob.
One bottle of Hob Brite goes a very long way, you only need to use a small blob each time.

Hob Brite does not contain bleach or any other alkaline cleaners it contains a healthy dose of citric acid which helps that cleaning process.
The company have packaged the cream in a unmissable bright orange recyclable plastic bottle, a colour that you cannot fail to miss on those supermarket shelves.

One thing that I found very interesting was that the product has allergen information, given that it is used as a cleaning product it took me a while to realise why this information was necessary.
But when you think about it it does make sense.
Hob Brite cream does not contain peanuts, mustard, shellfish, soya, celery, lactose, peanut, wheat, gluten, mustard, sulphites or oats. It is also a suitable product for vegetarians to use.

I would recommend Hob Brite to anyone, quick and easy to use, good cleaning powers, creates a shiny hob and if you have to shine the hob regularly it is not an ordeal.

Summary: It simplifies the cleaning process
