I am always looking for products that will make cleaning less of a chore. In Waitrose recently I spotted an interesting spray that claimed it would not only clean the fridge and microwave but that it would help to defrost the freezer too. Fridge gem made by IBA seemed like a completely new idea and one that my fridge and freezer could benefit from as the build up of frost on my freezer was getting serious!
The spray comes in a clean plastic bottle with a spray nozzle. I much prefer a spray cleaner as it is less messy and easy to apply. To clean the fridge you will first need to take out all food. Then all you do is spray inside onto all surfaces from a distance of about 20 cm.Leave the spray on for about 1 minute and then wipe off. I like the fact you don't have to rinse. The spray works in the same way when cleaning a microwave.
To defrost the freezer you will first need to completely empty it! Then simply spray the fridge gem liberally onto the ice. The spray will need to be left for at least 10 minutes to penetrate the ice or longer if the ice is really thick.
My opinion.

I love this product! It cleaned the inside of both my fried and microwave with ease removing all marks. My fridge looked as good as new when I had finished cleaning as did my microwave. I like the fact fridge has no apparent smell too. The real bonus for me was how quickly this spray managed to melt all that ice from my freezer! I really hate having to defrost using bowls to catch the water and still end up with a mess on my floor. Fridge gem made the task so much quicker and less messy.
The only downside to this spray is the high cost. I paid £2.99 for a 500ml bottle from Waitrose. I haven't seen it on sale any where else. I would highly recommend fridge gem, worth every penny in my book!

- 09/07/09 What a handy product to have! Students in rented accomodation with frost freezers should get this instead of breaking implements. I remember those days fondly! :) |

- 01/07/09 Oooh, I definitely need to invest in some of this, I was thinking about defrosting my freezer the other day but the thought of actually doing it nearly reduced me to tears, this sounds well worth the price tag! |
