This is one of my absolutely must have gadgets, it is probably one of the more simpler inventions designed for the kitchen but is definitely up there on my most used list. What is it ? It is a small hand held device, designed to core and cut apples into slices. It's handle and outer shell is made of a hard wearing plastic, the picture shows a red one but when I bought mine the only colour available was yellow so this may change depending on store or time of year. The inside blade is made of stainless steel, it has a small circular middle this is what cores the apple. On the outside of the circle there are eight triangular segments, these slice the ... I actually stumbled across this apple slicer in Ikea by accident, when I put my hand on it and found it to be a little painful! On closer inspection I saw that behind the lovely design it actually had a purpose, and at only £1.79 there was no way I wasn't going to pop one in my bright yellow ikea bag. This of course is the danger of ikea, you see cheap little things you love, and when you go to pay you realise that the £30 budget you set yourself when you went in has gone utterly out of the window! The Charm Apple slicer is fairly robust, which is surprising, because I was concerned the force of using it would make it a little flimsy and not great ... Read the complete review

I first saw this apple slicer at work, where a colleague impressed everyone in the lunch room with a display of instant apple slicing every day! I immediately thought that my children would absolutely love the noise it made and the way it cut the apple into 8 pieces, exactly the same size. Walking through IKEA marketplace I spotted a red version, and immediately popped it into my shopping bag. It was a couple of pounds and seemed very good value. Once I got it home, both my gadget-mad sons were fascinated, and ate at least one apple every day for the next two weeks. The design of the apple slicer is very clever. It is robust so that you can put your ... Read the complete review

When I first heard about this product I thought - whatever the heck for?! There really are a lot of products out there that seem to be made for the sole purpose of clogging up people's houses and making money - they don't really serve a purpose. That's what I thought about the apple slicer - I mean, if I want an apple cut into pieces I can use a regular knife!! That was before I was given one of these as a gift though, and I realised just how much fun they are. Basically the way these work is that you place the blade side over the top of an apple, with the centre ring over the core part of the apple, then press firmly down, and voila! Perfect apple ... I bought this apple slicer from Ikea a year or so ago as I can't resist picking up little bits and pieces from the marketplace in Ikea. Everything seems so cheap there and i'm sure this was only a couple of pounds at the very most (but i can't remember the exact price). I'm not a great fruit or vegetable eater and have to remind myself to eat them otherwise they just wouldn't feature in my diet very often! I like apple but not a big fan of just biting into one but equally wouldn't necessarily be that bothered about cutting one into slices even though i prefer it that way. This slicer seemed like the perfect easy option to tempt me into eating more apples! It ... Read the complete review
