      A great tealight lantern

      A while back I was in Ikea, wandering around looking at things, as you do after having your meatballs. I had been thinking of buying a tea light lantern for a while, as I had fancied the idea of getting one. I wanted one as I like the look of the lanterns, and in the event of a power cut I could easily carry this around the house (Naturally while I had had several before buying this, I've not had one since.) I chose this as it was attractive and looked like it would do the job, the fact it was only £2 also helped :)

      **The Lantern**
      These come in several different colours, but mine is red. They are all made from metal with glass windows. At the top is a little handle so that you can carry this, and in the sides are cut out stars, there are also stars on the glass. To open the door, you lift a small metal latch, and the door section swings open. Inside is a section to hold the candle in place. I use tea light candles, but looking at it I think you could also use a small pillar candle assuming it was the same diameter as a tea light. When the door is swung open the opening is nice and big, so there is room to move. I usually light the candle before placing it in the holder, as I find this easier, but there is plenty of space if you want to put it in before lighting it.

      **Do I recommend this?**
      Yes I would recommend it, this is an attractive lantern, which does the job well. The top of the holder does get hot, but not the handle and I have carried this around when lit. As an Ikea lantern this is only available at Ikea, but at the bargain price of £2, I don't see this as a problem :) I keep mine on the coffee table, but the lantern is sturdy enough that I would happily use it outside on a warm summers night. (if you were braver then me you could use it outside on a winters night :) ).

      A great buy

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Another Ikea bargain
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      This is one of those cheap Ikea items that I have seen in lots of people's houses and gardens, and has been available for years! I guess if an item is popular, then why not keep producing it?

      The lantern I have is red, and it also comes in white, silver and black. At just £3, it is no surprise this is such a popular buy!

      ~~~~~~~~~
      Simple design
      ~~~~~~~~~
      This lantern is designed to hold a single tealight, and is for indoor and outdoor use. It is 21cm high and has a simple yet pretty design. It is made of metal, with glass around the middle. At the top of the lantern is a thin handle so you can hang it up in the garden, but of course you can simply pop it onto any other surface too.

      The tealight simple sits in a little metal area specially designed for it in the middle of the lantern. One of the glass sections is hinged to create a small door, so it is really easy to put the tealight in, and take it out after it is finished. Some candle holders can be a bit fiddly to use, but this one is very straightforward.

      ~~~~~~~~~
      A warm glow
      ~~~~~~~~~
      What makes this lantern look so nice when the tealight is lit is that there are small star designs cut out from the top. So the light glows through these holes nicely, as well as through the clear glass middle of the lantern. It creates a soft and quite calming glow, and on summer evenings in the garden this looks really lovely.

      Although we only have one of these lanterns, I often think of buying some more as I think to have a few of these glowing outside would look very pretty but as we seem to have such short summers these days I never seem to get round to it! I do tend to use this outside more than inside as I have other candle holders that I use indoors, but this is a versatile item that lends itself to both I think.

      ~~~~~~~~
      In summary
      ~~~~~~~~
      I have to give this item five stars as I really have no complaints about it. It looks good, it's cheap and ours has lasted for years and looks as good as new. Recommended.

      pretty little lantern for your home

      I am a big fan of candle light, and have candles light almost every night in my home and in summer I love to have them outside too if we're out in the garden late - and these lanterns are perfect!

      Available from Ikea for only £2.99 they are a bargain! They come in three colours, white, black and silver - my personal favourite are the white ones as I think they are the most pretty looking.

      The lantern stands around 21cm high so they are a good size, and have a handle on the top so can be hung up in the house or garden and carried easily without burning your fingers (aslong as you dont leave the handle sticking directly up above the lantern - heat rises and it will get hot!).

      There are stars cut into the lantern and on the glass windows so when a candle is lit inside it throws lovely star shapes around the room. One of the glass doors opens with a little latch so you can put your candle in, and on the inside there is a little tray for you to put your candle inside so it wont move around when you move the lantern.

      I have several of these hung in my garden and also a couple in my house and they look lovely when lit, especially outside where they create a nice atmosphere and light. At £2.99 they really are a bargain and look every bit as pretty as more expensive ones you can purchase from other home stores.

      Overall if your looking for a nice vintage looking lantern to hand in your house or your garden then I would definitely recommend getting one of thses - they're perfect! My only criticism is that I wish they came in more colours!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Nice pretty lanterns at a reasonable price

      Quite often in the summer I like to have family and friends around and have a BBQ, so that there is a nice atmosphere and lighting in the garden, I like to have candles around.

      On one of our regular visits to Ikea, I spotted the Rotera

      *What is it:*

      These are little lanterns which measure about 21cm high. It has 6 glass sides which have a couple of white little stars on each. One of the glass panels opens to allow you to put a tea light in, when you close the door there is a little latch on to stop the door from opening on its own. The lantern also has a little handle on the top.

      The lanterns are available in silver, white, black, red, pink blue and green and all cost £2.99. All colours are available to buy online and in store, you can always check the stock of you local store via a link on the website.

      *My thoughts*:

      I think these are really nice and look really pretty at night when I use them to light my garden up.

      What I really liked was I found them more child friendly than other products, if this got knocked over and went un-noticed, the door has a little safety catch on to stop it from coming open. Also, as the tea light is enclosed, I didn't have to worry about the wick being blown out.

      I also think the price is quite reasonable, I have been to my local garden centre today and they were charging at least £4 for these.

      Ikea say the item is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, I have only used for outdoors but I think these would also look really pretty inside.

      I would recommend this product, we have had ours for several years now and still look like new and do the job perfectly, 5 out of 5 stars from me.

      Thanks for reading.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        5 stars

        Like most people, I'm quite partial to a few candles here and there. Ever since the children were babies though, I've had a bit of a thing of the safety of them and I'm terrified they will get burnt or knock one over. I do light them, but often by the time they have gone to bed and I've remembered, I'm usually passed bothering, which is why I like lanterns or tea light holders. I have a few scattered here and there and quite a few in my garden too.

        The Ikea Rotera lanterns are one of my favourites and I have several of them. They are available in cream, black and silver, and I once saw them in blue too but haven't seen them in this colour again. My favourite ones for indoor use are the white ones, which look really pretty, while the silver or black ones are perfect for outdoor use, and won't look as weathered as quickly as the white ones do.

        Size wise they are pretty perfect. 21 cm tall and just under half a kg in weight, they just look the right size. Not too big and not too small. They are perfect size for holding a tea light, and radiating a lovely glow.

        In summer time for outdoor use, I like to scatter a few of them around and about and they give such a lovely glow and ambience while sat outside with friends and family and a glass or two of wine. Because the candles are enclosed inside the lantern, you don't need to worry about a little wind blowing out the candle either.

        The glass sides (6 in all) each have a star etched into the centre of the glass, and one side of the glass has a small handle where you can open up to place the candle in the centre. There are stars cut out of the top of the holder which also give a lovely glow and look very pretty. The handle at the top of the lantern makes it handy to move around even when there is a candle inside, it means you do not have to hold any of the hot part of the lantern and it looks really nice carrying it this way too. We went to a medieval themed wedding in November last year, and after the 4pm ceremony and photos outside, we had to take a short walk to the venue and each woman was given one of these to hold and guide. With about 50 guests, I'm sure it was quite lovely to see, although I did feel a bit self conscious in medieval clothes with a lantern walking through the streets of Dudley!

        The handle will also allow you to hang them up either outside or inside and this looks really effective.
        Priced at £2.99 in Ikea, I think this is really good value. We have bought quite a few now over the years, and although I can't tell which one is which, some must be at least 7 or 8 years old and they certainly don't look it. I did have to throw one away last year but only because it had slipped down the back of the table outside and hadn't been noticed so it had weathered and rusted by the time we had found it, most likely several months later! In comparison to other tea light holders on the market for the same price, I don't think there is a comparison. The Ikea Rotera's are good quality and look it, where as other ones I have seen for the same price have been low quality and looked fairly flimsy and naff!

        For a pretty, good quality and low cost tea light holder, I would most definitely recommend the Ikea Rotera. I can find no fault with it and will continue to use them.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A nice, cheap lantern for the home or garden

          I have a silver one of these lanterns from Ikea and it can be used both inside the house and in the garden. It is surrounded on all sides by panels of clear glass with stars etched on them which keep it wind-proof so the candle is never in danger of being blown out when using the lantern outside.

          On the inside there is a holder which fits a tea light perfectly. The door opens on a hinge and secures by sliding down a small metal pin. There is a metal loop on the top of the lantern which allows it to be hung up however it also sits nicely on flat surfaces. At the top of the lantern there are star-shaped holes which look nice when the candle light shines through them, especially when lit at night. It would be nice if they had a version that had coloured glass panels as this would make it look even nicer when there was a lit candle inside.

          I would recommend putting the candle out with a candle snuffer as I once blew one out and the wax went on the glass inside the lantern. This was difficult to clean as the door is small and it was awkward to sort out. I will still rate this lantern 5 stars as it looks nice, can be hung up or used on flat surfaces and is only around £2.99 so it's a good cheap buy.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Everyone has these, but it's because they look so good

            I have quite a few of these Ikea Rotera lanterns, along with everyone else I know I might add!
            They are really very reasonably priced at just £2.99 each for the standard size, which is 21cm tall, and is available in silver, black, red and white, and which hold tealights. And at £14.99 each for the very large size, which is 38cm tall, and is just available in red and white, and which hold the larger block candles. Both the standard size and the large size are suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

            The standard size is just available to buy ready assembled directly off the shelf. I have quite a few of these dotted around the house. I use the standard sized ones in two different ways. Number one obviously is to put tealights in them, they look really warm and welcoming with tealights burning inside, the candlelight creates lovely reflections on the star etched glass doors, and creates star shaped light patterns through the holes in the top. The second way I sometimes use these is with a small string of battery powered lights inside each lantern, this creates a totally different but a funky kind of a look, you also don't need to worry about forgetting to blow the candles out this way.
            Although everyone and their dog seems to have these, you can definately see why. They are really reasonably priced, and they look really effective at night time all lit up. They last for years as well, some of mine are actually many years old, Ikea have been sellling them for so long now. I've just added to mine over time, as I do use them so much.

            The large size comes flat packed and does require self assembly. They are really easy to assemble though, I assembled them both quite easily myself, and believe you me if I can assemble them anyone can! I have only ever used the large ones with candles in, but you could probably do the same as I do with the standard ones and put some battery powered lights in there if you preferred. With candles in them though you do once again get that really warm and welcoming look, the candlelight creates lovely reflections on the star etched glass doors, and creates star shaped light patterns through the holes in the top.

            The only small gripe I have with these is that they do get very hot when in use. The handle on the top stays cool though, so as long as you remember to pick them up by the handles then no need to worry.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            A decent-priced quality tealight lantern for inside or outside the house.

            Loving candles as I do, I am interested in finding decent oil burners and/or candle holders to hold or display them.
            Whilst browsing the candle section at Ikea recently, these Rotera Tealight Lanterns caught my eye and I took a closer look, which then resulted in me buying one.

            Whilst I have seen tealight lanterns similar to these in shops and stores before, they have always seemed cheap and tacky looking and not particularly well made. These however, looked to be of much better quality compared to any I have seen before and this was ultimately what led me to my decision to purchase one.

            The Rotera Tealight Lantern is priced at £4.80 and as well as being available in black, I noticed it was also available in silver and cream. Whilst I personally didn't find silver lantern appealing, I thought the cream one was quite attractive as well as the black. In the end, I decided to go for the black lantern.

            These lanterns are suitable for use both indoors and outdoors and this was another factor in my decision to purchase one. I thought it would like sitting next to my fire in the house, but equally as nice sitting on my patio table on one of the warm summer's evenings that I am hoping we experience this summer.
            The lanterns have a handle on the top and so can also be hung from a garden lantern hook too, when using these outside.

            My lantern is black metal with glass panels around the middle. There is a small catch on one of the panels which is hinged and so opens like a door to enable you to place a tealight inside in the holder. There are some star-shaped cut outs in the metal around the top of the lantern and it is attractive to look at. The lantern itself is quite lightweight and stands at approx 8-9 inches high. That is just my rough estimation as I don't have a tape measure to measure the exact height.
            As I mentioned before, this lantern looks well made and isn't cheap looking, nor does it have any ill-fitting or loose parts in the glass panels, which is something I have noticed when looking at lanterns similar to these in the past.

            I have used my lantern a number of times since purchasing it and it gives off a cosy glow when you light a tealight and place it inside the lantern. You have to be careful though as the lantern can get very warm, so if moving the lantern at all whilst there is a tealight burning inside, you should ensure you carry it by the handle on the top of the lantern.
            You are advised to place the lantern on a fire-resistant surface and of course keep it away from any combustible materials and of course never leave your lantern unattended when it is in use.

            I am really pleased with my purchase and am considering buying another one to use outside, suspended from lantern hooks for when we have a barbecue or are sitting in the garden. You can purchase lantern hooks from Amazon but I have also seen them for sale in garden stores.
            I also love using my lantern in the house and it looks really nice sitting next to my fire with a tealight burning inside on an evening. Very cosy!
            I recommend the Ikea Rotera Lantern to anyone who enjoys candles and burning tealights, as well as those who like to decorate their garden during the summer months. As this is suitable for use indoors and outdoors, I think these quality lanterns represent good value for money.
